'Monsters Inc.' Prequel In The Works

It appears that a prequel to Monsters Inc. is in the works. The new film will be called Monsters University and is slated for a November 2012 release.

The follow-up to the brilliant “Monsters Inc.” has been given an official title: “Monsters University”, and it will be a prequel.

Disney/Pixar confirmed the rumours at CinemaCon today, and the new flick will follow Mike and Sully through university when they apparently hated each other, showing how they eventually end up as friends.

The original gang will reprise their roles in the film, with Billy Crystal and John Goodman heading up the project, slated for a November 2012 release.

I can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years since the first film came out, but ”Monsters Inc.” is still going strong as my Number 1 Pixar movie. I like the idea of going for a prequel, it’s a fresh approach that I’m sure will be a massive hit.

What’s your favourite Disney/Pixar film? Is a prequel a good idea for “Monsters Inc?”

Amy Adams To Play Lois Lane In 'Superman'

Movie over Kate Bosworth, Amy Adams is the new Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's Superman...or is still called Man of Steel? Eh, whatever. With either title, Amy Adams is our new Lois Lane...

Amy Adams has landed the coveted role of Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's Superman. The director told the actress earlier this morning she had landed the role. Here's what Zack Snyder had to say about the actress.

"There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it."

It wasn't said how large the Lois Lane role, although there will be a contemporary take on the character. Here's what Zack Snyder had to say about this modern-day take on Lois Lane.

"It goes back to what I've said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What's important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today's audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance]."

Production will start on Superman later this summer, and it seems part of that production will take place in the Chicago suburb Plano, Illinois. Filming is said to start in August for two or three months. Warner Bros. has already begun hiring crew members for a production under the code name August Frost, which insiders believe is Superman. There will reportedly be 10 weeks of preparation and 10 weeks of shooting in and around the Plano area.

Review: 'Restrepo'

This movie is the REAL thing.  A documentary that will test your emotions and your strength.

Restrepo is about a group of soldiers out in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan for their 15 month deployment, which was considered to be one of the most dangerous posts in the military.  These men are shot at AT LEAST 4-5 times a day.  Could you imagine??

The outpost these men created at Korengal Valley IN ONE NIGHT was named after PFC Restrepo, who was killed early in the campaign.

Interviews with the soldiers who were there plus the footage there at the valley by Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger are included in the movie and interwoven very well.

This documentary was nominated at the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature and definitely deserved it.

I don't have to stress just how good this movie was.  It's REALLY good!  If you are in the military, watch this film! If you know anyone in the military, watch this film! If you have nothing to do with the military, WATCH THIS FILM!!!

There are very few movies that have made me TRULY appreciate the art of film and Restrepo is definitely one of those movies...

Review: 'AAAH! ZOMBIES!!'

Awww... look at the happy couple!!!

Now, I bet you can't guess what this movie is about... If you think this is about flying pigs and fast cars (aka another Fast and the Furious clone) then you'd be wrong my friend!  Actually, this is another zombie movie but it has a unique spin on the whole zombie genre: It tells the story in the zombie's point of view!

Four friends eat some ice cream they mixed with beer and a "green" substance and they die.  Then, they turn into flesh eating zombies! This movie could've turned into a really stupid and boring movie but instead it turned into a really stupid and exciting movie!

It was pretty hilarious and definitely reminded me of Shaun of the Dead.  This movie didn't take itself as serious though and the movie even jokes about itself which was funny.

The best part about the movie is the two different viewpoints.  When the screen is in black and white, it's in the normal perspective and everyone sees them as they REALLY are.  When the screen is in color; it's in the zombie's perspective. But by zombies, I mean we see our characters as they would if they were normal...

At 90 minutes, this movie is just the right amount of alloted time to watch on a Saturday night and it's a great movie to watch with some friends to have a good laugh.
This review was pretty short but it fits the profile of the film.. the film was short and actually... pretty sweet.

Third Writer On 'Scream 4' Revealed

Just a little insight on Scream 4's third writer...

After all the Scream 4 rewrite hysteria last year, something in the timeline just wasn’t adding up for us. Kevin Williamson was out the door before shooting even began, and once it did, his replacement, executive producer Ehren Kruger was firmly embedded. Towards the tail-end of the shoot, revisions were still being written with the pagecount blowing out to 140 pages, requiring an extension of the schedule and the addition of six actresses to film the latest material. However Kruger had already been long gone for Transformers 3, also shooting in Michigan. Double duty might have been possible, but highly unlikely in our opinion. His sole writer status on the robo threequel meant extensive work for him during that movie’s shooting over several months.

Then there is also the weekend of additional photography earlier this year, never attributed to any hired gun. Those extended scare scenes certainly weren’t improvised, so there had to be at least a third writer on board. Who was the phantom scribe?

While attending press junket activities this week, Assignment X quoted director Wes Craven shedding positive light on the rewrites, in the process naming the other writer as…

Wes Craven.

“I’m very pleased with the movie and how the script turned out,” said Craven. “It was a result of Kevin’s master script and Ehren did a decent amount of work on specific scenes. I wrote sections of the film myself, but it’s very much Kevin’s concept and over-arching framework of the film.”

Now this isn’t surprising. The veteran director contributed to the ever-evolving Scream 3 screenplay in 1999, along with writers Kruger and Laeta Kalogridis. Craven has such a reputation as the genre’s master director that many forget he’s a writer too, having scripted the majority of his directorial output up until Scream in 1996.

Any polishing by Wes Craven on Scream 4 can only mean the storyline’s consistency has been assured – after Williamson, Craven himself is the longest and closely invested in the saga and its characters.

'American Reunion' Plot Details Revealed

Curious as to what the next American Pie film, American Reunion, is all about? Cool, us too! Luckily What's Playing has all the details...

10 Things You need to Know About American Reunion :

1. The whole gang are returning to East Great Falls for their ten-year Highschool reunion (made possible thanks to Facebook). They’ll come near and far to remember the good times - only to be faced with the frightening realization that they’re no longer young teenagers.
2. Oz has hit the big time as a contestant on a Dancing with the Stars-type show. He also lives in a pricey Malibu mansion. He returns home a big-shot.
3. Stifler isn’t doing well - he’s working as a temp for a rude boss that refers to him as ‘his bitch’. He’s also not having a lot of luck with the ladies. Still, he’s excited to get back home and do some partying.
4. Jim’s next-door neighbor Kara, now all grown-up (!), develops a crush on the married man. Can Jim resist her? Can he keep his marriage to Michelle in one piece?
5. Marco wants to kill Jim. He’s been dating Kara for quite a while but now his woman only has eyes for the “pie f*cker”!
6. Upon returning home Stifler scores with Laurie, a former hotttie now 80 pounds heavier. Thoughtful as ever, Stifler lets her know he’ll be turning the lights off for their lovemaking session.
7. Jim is a YouTube sensation these days - everyone knows his little performance piece from the ’90s with Nadia!
8. Oz’s girlfriend Mia - seemingly with him for his money only - decides to join him at the reunion. Meanwhile, Oz’s ex-Heather brings with her to town her new boyfriend, a forty-something surgeon, who tries to act younger.
9. Stifler is supposed to be working on the weekend of the reunion and attempts to keep up the ruse that he still is.
10. Trisha use to go to bandcamp with Michelle. She’s now a smokin’ hotie bartender - one whom ‘international traveler’ Finch will score with (Though Stifler’s Mom will also make a reappearance).

Though the trades have only mentioned Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy and Seann William Scott as returning, all the cast members from the original movie - Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Chris Klein, Jennifer Coolidge, Alyson Hannigan etc - are definitely involved.

Finally, it’s a very funny storyline - - and seems to embody the heart that was present in the first film but missing in the sequels.

Thanks to What's Playing for the details.

'Rise Of The Apes' Gets New Release Date

The release date for Rise of the Apes has been moved from November to August. So it looks like we'll be monkeying around sooner rather than later.

On a side note, I originally thought this film was a prequel to Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes (2001), but it appears, according to IMDb, that the film is a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972). Hmm, I may have to do a little investigating -- or not.

Twentieth Century Fox has booted R-rated comedy "The Sitter" from Aug. 5 to a Dec. 9 release date to make room for "Rise of the Apes," which moves into the summer slot after having been shuffled twice before.

"Rise of the Apes," toplining James Franco and Freida Pinto, originally was dated on June 24, then moved to Thanksgiving weekend.

The film's new date isn't necessarily troubling news for the reboot, since August has become more fertile B.O. ground than in year's past. Still, pic's new summer slot traditionally has been considered less fruitful than either of its previous dates.

Fox said it hopes "Apes" can break through summer holdovers being the sesh's last event film.

In its new date, "Apes" will go up against three other wide releases, including Sony's toon hybrid "The Smurfs," Universal's Jason Bateman-Ryan Reynolds comedy "The Change-Up" and 3D sci-fi thriller "The Darkest Hour," from Summit.

"The Sitter," toplining Sam Rockwell and Jonah Hill, opens alongside New Line's "New Year's Eve," looking to attract primarily adult audiences as the only R-rated comedy skedded so far during the Christmas sesh.

The '24' Movie Will Be Here In 2012

According to star Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer), the much-anticipated 24: The Movie will be lighting up movie theaters in 2012.

We’re holding our breath, Jack Bauer: Kiefer Sutherland told the women of The View this morning that the much-anticipated release of the 24 movie will be in (drumroll please) … 2012.

Hey, there’s no reason NOT to believe Sutherland (who was on the show to promote his Broadway play That Championship Season). Still, EW hears that the movie has yet to find a director and has no start date. I guess we should stay tuned.

Sutherland told EW earlier this year that he remains committed to a big-screen version of the Fox drama and, in fact, hopes to begin production within a year. Though Fox ultimately nixed a script by Billy Ray (State of Play), the movie remains “the little engine that could.” He acknowledged that 20th Century Fox has been working with director/producer Tony Scott (Man on Fire, The Good Wife) on the project. “Billy did a fantastic job and there are aspects of that story [that will remain],” the actor says. “I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

What do you think, Bauer fans? Will you believe it when you see it?

Review: Entire 'Saw' Series

Hello Zep!  What you are about to read is something that I think you may find a little interesting.  You think you are going to read a review of "Comics Anonymous" but instead... you are going to read a review on the entire Saw film series.  If you do not finish reading the review in 60 seconds, someone will come up from behind you in a pig mask and knock you out.  After that, you are under their total control. You will have no way of knowing what's going to happen to you. Until you wake up... then you will see...

The original Saw was written by Leigh Whannell who also plays Adam and was directed by James Wan.  I'm just going to say this right off the bat but the first one was, by far, my favorite one.  I think because it was just the most polished one and the ending was a definite shocker that the filmmakers kept trying to add to the "big twist ending" on each proceeding sequel.

II and III were the next ones in the "John Kramer is actually alive" trilogy of Saw.  II was a mess and III was a little better.   So far, I and III are in my favorites list.

IV,V,VI and The Final Chapter weren't really needed but here they are.  IV wasn't that great and V was even worse. VI was a big improvement over the last two and The Final Chapter was decent enough.  The last 4 Saw films were written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton and directed by 3 different people.

IV was directed by II and III director Darren Lynn Bousman; V was directed by David Hackl who was the production designer on II, III and IV; VI and The Final Chapter was directed by Kevin Greutert, editor of I through V.

So, overall.. If I had to watch any of the Saw films again, I'd definitely choose the first one. The performances in the original were the best.  I may even watch the third and the sixth one as well.  These films aren't anything amazing or something that will make you go "WOW!" every time you watch them, but they are decent horror flicks and Jigsaw is a great horror icon.

Agree with me?  Make your choice...

Update: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 'Dark Knight Rises' Role Still Unknown

Despite the report a few days back, it appears that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises is still unknown. If you recall, the actor was said to be playing Alberto Falcone, or otherwise knows as The Holiday Killer. But thanks to EW, those reports seem to be false. Let the speculation reboot...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, long-rumored to be joining his Inception brethren in The Dark Knight Rises, will appear in director Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film. But a source close to the situation says that recent reports that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer) — the son of former mob kingpin, Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) — are incorrect. So, Batman fans: Begin the re-speculation now!

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for the follow-up.

Review: 'Interplanetary'

Remember in my previous review of "Exam" how I discovered a gem of a movie I hadn't heard of before? Well, I discovered this one in the same video store.  Remember in my previous review of "I Spit On Your Grave" how I thought it was trash and you shouldn't even attempt to think about renting it?  Well, guess what?  DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO ATTEMPT TO THINK ABOUT THINK ABOUT RENTING THIS!!! (That was not a typo!!!)

You see the DVD cover?  What do you think?  What do you believe the film is about?  Well, WHATEVER you think it's about is WAY WRONG!  You see the reviews on the cover?  "Entirely too good to miss!"  LIE! "...intelligent and start-to-finish entertaining!"  AN EVEN BIGGER LIE!

I didn't even finish 20 minutes of this film without wishing I was eating rat poison!  I wish I was using a frying pan to bash my face in!  I wish I had someone tell me just how awesome this movie was! (that last one would be HELL!!!!)  Literally... this film looks cheap.  The acting was terrible and the story, useless.  I know some of you like the "so bad it's good" type movies but even those people may second guess themselves when watching this.

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, "You didn't even finish the movie to know what the plot was!" Well, my argument is.. if there isn't A SINGLE THING to interest you in the first 15-20 minutes of a film.. then why bother?  I mean, I'll be honest, I've seen introductions to movies that weren't that great but this one was just plain awful!  I mean, after two men discover a Martian hand and believe they are going to be rich and famous, one man gets shot and dies by another man.  After that, the other guy throws something at the man who shot the one guy in the helmet (did I mention that there are OBVIOUS glued on yellow arrows on the helmets.. I mean seriously????) and the man suffocates to death from the atmosphere.  Oh yeah.. I almost forget.. THEY ARE ON MARS!!!!!

I guess there was some kind of monster that attacks everyone and stuff cause I skimmed over the movie after I got bored and was like, "Wow!  This crap just got even worse!"  There are bodies being mutilated and blood and guts everywhere so if you like seeing characters who are only there to get their bodies destroyed, then I guess skip to the second half of the movie. (that last sentence was hard to type) But beware... this movie SUCKS!!!

What the hell is the point of all this???  We don't need to see a woman get naked for different men!  You're a freaking astronaut!!!  Or something like that.. I can't remember and I don't even want to remember.

So, I bet you can already tell how I feel about this film.  I was excited to see this. It looked interesting enough.  But I guess not all hidden treasures are gold. This hidden treasure was anything but.  It was trash though. Wet, dirty, stinking trash!!  Ah.. I love the smell of trash in the morning!  Where are the garbage people when you need them...

'Hatchet 3' Has The Green Light

So it seems that Hatchet 3 has been given the green light from Dark Sky Films. This is a little surprising because I thought Hatchet II was a little sub-par. Hmm...

Dark Sky Films dropped a little late-day news on us with the announcement of Hatchet 3, based on the success of Hatchet 2's VOD and DVD release.

At this time, cast and crew details (including director) are being worked out.

Hatchet creator Adam Green, however, reiterates: "We already had a possible storyline for Hatchet 3 worked out before we began shooting Hatchet 2, so my cast, crew and I are beyond excited to see that the story and legacy of Victor Crowley will indeed continue. For a little indie movie that I dreamt up when I was just eight years old, it has been absolutely surreal to watch it turn into a modern-day slasher franchise."

Hatchet 3 will continue the saga of Crowley, the "Bayou Butcher," who first made his gruesome mark in 2007's Hatchet.

Hatchet 3 will continue where the story left off in Hatchet 2, as a young woman sought revenge on the malevolent monster that killed her family while they were fishing in Louisiana swamp country.

The threequel is being produced by ArieScope's Cory Neal, producer of the previous two hits.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 'Dark Knight Rises' Role Revealed

Who will it be? The Joker? The Riddler? Hugo Strange? Deadshot? Guess again...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, or also known as The Holiday Killer in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. The character is the son of Carmine Falcone, one of the baddies from Batman Begins.

EXCLUSIVE: Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to re-team with his "Inception" director Christopher Nolan on "The Dark Knight Rises," the question turns to what role the actor will play.

Speculation has run rampant regarding the role, with blogs pegging the part as The Riddler or Deadshot, but insiders tell Variety that Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in "Batman Begins."

Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan's superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer's stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against "realistic" villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher's 1997 misfire "Batman and Robin."

While Nolan has elected to keep fans in the dark -- for now -- what is known is that indie sensation Juno Temple is being eyed for a supporting role as a street-smart Gotham girl.

Warner Bros. and reps for both thesps declined to comment on casting and character rumors.

Nolan continues to fine-tune the script as the start of production grows closer. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker is also serving as a creative consultant on another WB superhero franchise, Zack Snyder's "Superman," which now has Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane onboard.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is scheduled for release on July 20, 2012.

Since Gordon-Levitt was first reported last month as being in talks for "Dark Knight," he hasn't signed on for any more projects, and his summer remains wide open. Thesp next stars opposite Natalie Portman in the indie drama "Hesher," which Wrekin Hill recently acquired, with plans to release the long-delayed film in April. He'll also be seen alongside Seth Rogen in Jonathan Levine's cancer comedy "50/50," which Summit will release on Sept. 30.

Gordon-Levitt recently wrapped David Koepp's thriller "Premium Rush," which Columbia plans to open Jan. 13. He's currently filming Rian Johnson's sci-fi pic "Looper," which co-stars Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.

Temple, who can now be seen in Jordan Scott's "Cracks" and Gregg Araki's "Kaboom," has two Sundance pics in the can -- Elgin James' "Little Birds" and last year's festival hit "Dirty Girl." She recently wrapped starring roles in the indies "Killer Joe" opposite Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch, as well as "Jack and Diane." Additionally, thesp plays Queen Anne in Paul W.S. Anderson's adaptation of "The Three Musketeers," and is gearing up to co-star in the indie thriller "A Single Shot."

Gordon-Levitt is repped by CAA, while UTA and Troika rep Temple.

Thanks to Variety for the scoop!

Review: 'I Spit On Your Grave'

This remake of the 1978 film of the same name is just the same old type of revenge horror flick we've seen countless times before.  Nothing new, nothing original and NOTHING entertaining.

Jennifer Hills (played by Sarah Butler) is a young novelist who is out in the country to go to a cabin she has rented a few months so she can write her latest book.  She gets the keys and then asks directions because she has no idea where it is.  (Convenient)  She stops at a gas station to fill up her car and  meets up with a few guys who work there.  Johnny, the head of the group, goes up to her and startles her, spilling fluid on him and when she hits the panic button on her car keys, Johnny spills gasoline over himself.  Of course, the other two guys looking on make fun of him and Johnny gets very upset.  Very upset indeed.

Jennifer locates the cabin and begins her writing.  Conveniently, she drops her cell phone into the toilet and calls someone to help with the pipes as the water is too dirty to use.  She then gets startled a few times but thinks nothing of it but it escalates and she begins to get a bit paranoid.  She comes upon her laptop and see a picture on it.  It's those guys she encountered at the gas station and that "plumber".  She gets scared and the guys begin to make fun of her and have their way with her.

The "plumber" named Matthew, is a stuttering train wreck.  Johnny is a complete jerk and obviously doesn't care about Jennifer.  The other two guys, a fat one and one who cares about his hair a little too much, round up the group.  They gang rape her with the help of a local sheriff Jennifer called earlier to help her but we find out he is not a loyal man of the law.

She manages to escape two encounters with these men and the men struggle to find her.  They try burning all evidence that could link them to these terrible actions.

The first hour is just terrible to watch and the acting by the men, with the exception of Matthew (played by Chad Lindberg) is just so bad.  Mr. Lindberg gives the dim light in an otherwise brain dead group of men.  The second hour is a little better because Jennifer gets her revenge using some torture methods of her own, each one specific to each man.  Except for Matthew, who just gets choked and later on, is used in the last torture. It's pretty satisfying to see her get her revenge though.

All in all, this is just another torture porn type movie and it doesn't really do anything new to the genre.

Review: 'The Killing Jar'

For 90 minutes, we are teased with wondering exactly what the hell is going on.  Is Michael Madsen's character (credited as Doe) the one who just recently killed a family? Are any of the hostages the killer?  Do we even care?

The film begins in a diner where the entire film takes place.  A tired waitress (played by Amber Benson) just hates her job. Her boss (played by Danny Trejo) is a complete jackass.  A salesman (played by Harold Perrineau) is stuck in the middle of nowhere.  Another man named Hank (played by Kevin Gage) has a secret, (Again, with the secrets).  A teen boy and girl are there as well but they play the nobody cares about you, characters.

Michael Madsen walks in the diner and all hell breaks loose. (unless our minds explode, then hell would break even more!)  Why Doe decides to take these people hostage is anyone's guess. Maybe the cop (played by Lew Temple) just pushed his buttons a little too much. Maybe he is just a psychotic murderer. Maybe he is just wanting to play a game of Life or Death. Maybe Doe is wishing he actually had a name and is taking his anger out on them.

A man by the name of Mr. Greene (played by Jake Busey) shows up with a briefcase full of money for a man named Smith. Doe is, for some reason, obsessed with finding out who this Smith guy is and ties Greene down to a chair and later on, a couple of the other hostages.

Madsen's performance is nothing noteworthy but given the crappy material he was given, does an okay job.

The only good quality of the whole film is Harold Perrineau and his performance. He seems to flawlessly go through his performance with ease and it's a shame he just had to be in this film because he deserves much better than this. The way his character evolves over a short period of time is quite amazing to watch. He is the only reason I would maybe recommend this film. (He was also an executive producer for the film, alongside Michael Madsen)

If you are looking for a film to just waste some time because you want some noise in the house before you have to go to work on a Monday morning, you may be satisfied with this. If you are looking for a smart thriller, with all due respect, LOOK ELSEWHERE!

Nolan Wants Juno Temple For 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Not too sure who she'll play, but apparently director Christopher Nolan wants Juno Temple (Year One) for The Dark Knight Rises, to play a "street-wise Gotham girl". Until she is officially cast, I'll keep the character speculation to a minimum. Although, I can see her as Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon's daughter. How about you?

Review: "Blue Velvet"

Blue Velvet is, simply put, an amazing film!

Blue Velvet revolves around a young man named Jeffrey Beaumont (played by Kyle Maclachlan) who discovers a human ear in a field. He then investigates, with help from a high school girl named Sandy (played by Laura Dern) to find out who that ear was from. He probably should have just kept walking along because he gets in too deep with a lounge singer (played by Isabella Rosellini) and having to fight off a criminal, played brilliantly by the legendary Dennis Hopper.

The film could be a film that defines the neo-noir genre and is considered one of the greatest films of the 80's and of all time.  I don't disagree with that.  It can also be considered an erotic thriller since there are some scenes involving sex that can be uncomfortable to watch but overall, a great film.

Directed by the profound David Lynch, he combines the elegance with the crazy.  Isabella Rossellini does a decent job with her performance. She is a brave actress for the stuff she does in the film and she definitely deserves credit!

The greatest thing in this film is Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth.  He is so crazy, brutal and heartless but at the same time, hilarious and that's the beauty of Frank Booth.  He is one crazy, whacked up dude but he makes you laugh while he is beating up Jeffrey.  Dennis Hopper was perfect for this role and it's one of his all time best.  Frank Booth is considered to be one of the greatest film villains of all time and I most definitely do not argue that notion.

Some may find the pacing to be a bit slow or even the whole movie to be boring but if anything, watch the film for Dennis Hopper. He steals the show in every scene he is in. Kyle Maclachlan and Laura Dern are great too but Dennis Hopper is just amazing to watch.

Blue Velvet is required viewing for all fans of cinema.  You haven't watched it yet?  What are you waiting for? Schedule 2 hours out of your day to watch this amazing piece of work and be prepared.  Oh, and get some Pabst Blue Ribbon.  The reference will ring true once you see this film.

Review: 'Exam'

Exam is a British thriller released in the UK in early 2010 written, produced and directed by Stuart Hazeldine.  Oh the joys of discovering a new film that you have never heard of before.

The film revolves around the question, "What would you do to win the ultimate job?"  Hence the tagline.

8 people are placed into a room, 4 men and 4 women.  The 8 people sit in according desks and The Invigilator, as the man is called in the film, tells these 8 people they have 80 minutes (because the movie is just a bit longer than 90 minutes) to answer a simple question.  He also tells them 3 rules they MUST obey:  If you  try to communicate with him or the guard in the room with them, they will be disqualified, they spoil (or dirty) the piece of paper that's on their desk, disqualified and if they attempt to leave the room for ANY reason, again disqualified.  Each piece of paper has the word Candidate on it with a corresponding number next to it like Candidate 1, Candidate 2 and so on to 8.

One candidate is disqualified almost immediately after the Invigilator leaves writing on their paper, "I believe I deserve.." before they are taken out of the room.
Another candidate breaks the ice by talking to the rest of the candidates and gives each of them a nickname because he doesn't want them to use their real names. (stereotypical nicknames but it works)

And then who do you trust after trying to figure out the answer to the question? Is it hidden in the paper? Is it right in front of them in the room? Is it something entirely different?  That's the film's biggest strength is that it builds and builds until it reaches it's climatic moments while not feeling cheap or fake.
Though probably the biggest problem is that some of the lines were pretty cheap and it's not really scary or thrilling, even though this is a thriller.  But it does make you think as you watch and I don't know about you but I like when a film makes me think along with the characters. It makes you feel as if you're there with them.

But with that aside, I thought the film as a whole worked well for the most part.  It made me think of what the answer was and in the end, the answer was right there all along.

The acting was really good and no one was too over dramatic. Though, the guard in the film was just stone faced the entire time. The guard character was probably the creepiest character in the whole movie.
It definitely has that claustrophobic feel to it since the entire movie takes place in one room but at the same time has some great directing by Mr. Hazeldine and great music to set the mood.

One thing I was glad they didn't do was try and give a flashback to every character ( leave that goodness to Lost).  They do give background to every character though through the dialogue and most of the conversations feel real and flow well.

Overall, the film was pretty good. Doesn't bring anything new to the table but it's a great entry into the thriller genre and a good debut by Mr. Hazeldine.  I recommend getting it on DVD. You won't be disappointed. Well, maybe slightly if you are expecting blood and gore.  Just saying...

'True Lies 2' To Kick Off Schwarzenegger's Comeback

It seems that Arnold Schwatzenegger's first film post-office will be True Lies 2. Co-star Tom Arnold recently laid out all the facts...

For a long time, True Lies co-star and good friend of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Arnold, has said that True Lies 2 is happening. Then, last year, we heard the movie was being turned into a weekly TV series that could possibly star wrestler/actor John Cena. Now, Tom Arnold is back on the True Lies 2 train saying, quite matter-of-factly, that True Lies 2 has a very high chance of being Arnold Schwarzenegger's first film since leaving office as governor of California.

There had been a number of sequel scripts written for True Lies 2 over the years, which James Cameron previously stated would not be used for the proposed TV series. Cameron has made it clear that he is not involved with the show based on the popular 1994 action film, but Tom Arnold now claims that the Avatar and Titanic director will be producing True Lies 2 . He claims that there is a finished script that both he and Arnold Schwarzenegger definitely want to make.

Here is what he had to say about True Lies 2, and his proposal to Sylvester Stallone to bring back some of the action genre's most remembered sidekicks in The Expendables 2.

Tom Arnold: I have read a great True Lies 2 script, and I hope we are able to do it. Knock on wood. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited. I am excited.

Ever since Arnold left office, he has been talking about what he wants to do in terms of his next movie. Do you think its actually a reality that you guys will do True Lies 2?

Tom Arnold: Literally. We have both read the script. There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show White Collar, wrote. It is really great. Jim can't direct it. But he can produce it. We hope it gets done. We have a few fun things we want to do. I am supposed to remain cool about this. For me, it would be a lot of fun to work with the guys again.

Have you talked about who you might want to direct this time around?

Tom Arnold: There is a list of really good directors. There have always been people who were interested in doing it. I let those guys handle that. I put in my two cents.

You and Arnold have had quite an interesting relationship. When he was in office, one of the only appearances he made was in your movie The Kid and I. I truly love that movie, maybe more than True Lies. When are you going to do a follow-up to that?

Tom Arnold: I think True Lies 2 is going to be the follow-up to that. I am excited. All I can say right now is, I know that Arnold and I will work together. A lot of people are sending him scripts now. He is carefully going through them, deciding what he wants to do. He wants to have some fun. He wants to do something that is worth his time, but fun. Hopefully, we can get this thing figured out. And we can get something on track. I am just waiting. I am following his lead.

What about joining in on The Expendables 2?

Tom Arnold: I could always do that. That would be a fun little thing to do. I said to Sly, "You should have a thing for the sidekicks." We'll see what he does. I thought he did a great job with the first one. I was really proud of him.

True Lies 2 is in development and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Arnold.

C. Thomas Howell Confirms Lizard For 'Amazing Spider-Man'

Actor C. Thomas Howell (The Hitcher, TV's Criminal Minds) has spilled the beans on who the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man will be -- and, drum roll...The Lizard. Here's Howell's direct quote...

"There is not a whole lot to talk about. Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now. I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker who's son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation. There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-man is kind of hurting. I help him when all o the other people won't. Part of the story is, the nation thinks he might be a bad guy. They don't know what to think. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. I pitch in and help out at the end. That is the best way."

OMG! Darren Aronofsky Out Of 'The Wolverine'

This just keeps getting better and better -- not really. Darren Aronofsky has bowed out of directing The Wolverine, a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This sucks. I thought Aronofsky would have brought the clawed mutant to the big screen the way he was meant to be. This doesn't necessarily mean another director can't, I was just looking forward to Darren's vision...as were a lot of other fans, too.

Darren Aronofsky is bowing out of directing 20th Century Fox’s sequel The Wolverine, saying the project would keep him out of the country for too long.

Fox and Hugh Jackman - who is set to return in the title role - said they remain fully committed to making Wolverine and will move aggressively to find a new director.

Fox hadn’t yet greenlit the sequel. A significant portion of the movie will be shot overseas (there had been plans to shoot in Japan).

"As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, who have been totally supportive throughout my work on the movie, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year,” Aronofsky said in a joint statement with Fox.

“I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won't be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again,” he continued.

Stated Fox: “While we are of course disappointed that Darren can’t do The Wolverine, we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both The Wrestler and Black Swan with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making The Wolverine. We will regroup and move forward aggressively.”

Aronofsky’s production company Protozoa has first-look deal with Fox.

Christopher McQuarrie is writing Wolverine. Movie doesn’t have a release date yet.

Zack Snyder's 'Superman' Is A Fresh Start

It's no surprise here that Zack Snyder is making it perfectly clear that his new Superman movie will not acknowledge the films of past, including 2006's Superman Returns, which pretty much ignored Superman III & IV, but was a sequel to part II. Snyder's film will be in the same vein as Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (which, it should), and give the iconic hero a new origin, and thus, a new story. Sounds great, but again, it's nothing we didn't already expect to happen.

When Bryan Singer took moviegoers to Metropolis in the 2006 film ”Superman Returns,” he paid careful homage to the hero’s cinematic past. Don’t expect that approach from Zack Snyder, who on Wednesday shared his guiding principle: ”Respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.”

Snyder’s version of the Man of Steel is scheduled to reach theaters in December 2012 with Henry Cavill in the title role, and the director said that this will be the first modern Superman feature that will truly break from Richard Donner’s landmark 1978 film, which shared its star, Christopher Reeve, with three sequels and then also deeply informed Singer’s 2006 film, which put Brandon Routh in the iconic blue tights but tapped into both style and story elements from the work of Donner and Reeve.

“Literally, the one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we’re making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there’s been no other Superman movies,” Snyder said. “If you look at ‘Batman Begins,’ there’s that structure, there’s the canon that we know about and respect, but on other hand there’s this approach that pre-supposes that there haven’t been any other movies. In every aspect of design and of story, the whole thing is very much from that perspective of respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.”

Albert Brooks Also On Board The 'Knocked Up' Spinoff

One more will likely be added to the growing cast of the untitled Knocked Up spinoff that will already star Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, and perhaps Megan Fox. The film should arrive sometime in June 2012, directed by Mann's husband, Judd Apatow.

EXCLUSIVE: Albert Brooks is negotiating to join the untitled comedy that Judd Apatow wrote and will direct for Universal Pictures. The film will star Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd, who are reprising the roles they played in Knocked Up. I'm told that Brooks is in talks to play Rudd's father in a film that will also feature Megan Fox. It's an interesting pairing, Brooks and Apatow, because they are both writer/directors whose comedies have a very auteurish voice. Brooks most recently played a mobster you don't want to cross in Drive, the Nicolas Winding Refn-directed adaptation of the James Sallis novel that stars Ryan Gosling.

Brooks also has a May publication date on 2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America, a novel that will be published by St. Martin's Press. That book takes a serious look at what might happen in 20 years, when cancer has been eradicated and life expectancies have been pushed up to 110, rendering 70 the new middle age. Brooks is repped by WME and managed by Herb Nanas.

Megan Fox To Join 'Knocked Up' Spinoff

So it appears that Megan Fox may be joining Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann in the currently untitled Knocked Up spinoff. This is from THR...

Megan Fox is in negotiations to star alongside Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann in Judd Apatow's latest directing vehicle for Universal.

Rudd and Mann are reprising their characters of husband and wife from Apatow's Knocked Up in a new story by the writer-director.

Fox's role is being kept under wraps.

Apatow is producing the movie with Barry Mendel and Clayton Townsend.

The Apatow picture marks a return to the studio world for Fox who recently wrapped Friends With Kids opposite Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig and Adam Scott for Jennifer Westfeldt, who wrote and directed. The actress was last seen in the indie fable Passion Play opposite Mickey Rourke.

Fox is repped by ICM and attorney Darren Trattner.

Universal’s vp of production Erik Baiers is overseeing the project for the studio.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the tip.

Seann William Scott, Jason Biggs Sign On To 'American Reunion'

Now only have Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott signed on for American Reunion, where they'll reprise their characters from the American Pie franchise, but so has Eugene Levy, who will play Jim's Dad for the umpteenth time. Now Universal just needs to get the rest of the cast back, which they're working on. I sure hope Eddie Kaye Thomas returns -- won't be the same without Paul Finch.

Universal is helping itself to another serving of American Pie.

The studio has completed deals with Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott (who entered treatment this week) and Eugene Levy to reunite for what is being called American Reunion.

The studio is currently working to bring in many of the other members of the original cast and is in negotiations with Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge to reprise their roles.

The first two films in the comedy franchise grossed a combined $523.2 million at the worldwide box office. American Wedding, the third, grossed $231.4 million. Universal also made several direct-to-DVD releases, which set sales records at the height of the DVD market.

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote and directed Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay have written the script and will direct the film.∙

Chris Moore and Craig Perry will produce.
Adam Herz, who wrote the originals, and Paul and Chris Weitz, who directed the first movie, are executive producing.

Review: 'Cloverfield'

"If this is the last thing you see, then that means I died!"  Yeah, just like this movie!

Now, I was going into Cloverfield with low expectations. I didn't expect much and that's what I got. A mediocre thriller.  The first 10-15 minutes are some of the most boring stuff I've seen in film.
A surprise farewell party for a guy named Rob who got a job in Japan.  Flirting, romance and stupidity ensue.

Why, OH WHY, did the most annoying character have to be the camera operator? The guy asks the stupidest questions, can't shut up and (the only positive to him) foreshadowed his own death! Kudos on the last part, my man! He records over a video of a romantic day between Rob and Beth, Rob's "love". Again, Kudos!

Probably the only redeeming quality of this film is that the filmmakers don't give any explanation as to why the monster attacks. It's just a random event. If they did, I can only imagine as to how dumb of an explanation they would have come up with. It definitely saved us an extra 10-20 minutes of wasted screen time.

When the military don't even know what they are fighting against, you know you are in for some deep trouble.

I feel bad not liking this because I loved director Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" but that was AFTER this film so he definitely made up for this crap. Oh, and J.J. Abrams as producer?  Good idea, huh? You just had to waste your money and time on this, didn't you? I applaud you on that.

"I had a good day!" says Beth during that romantic day that had to be recorded over... Did I have a good time watching this? Not really. At least the film was only 85 minutes. Thanks for saving me from a potential 2 1/2 hour film. I would have loved that... (sarcasm)

Sequel To 'The Fighter' In Early Talks

A sequel to the 2010 Mark Wahlberg boxing movie The Fighter is already being discussed in the offices at Closest to the Hole Productions. Wahlberg has been quoted saying that he feels the film really deserves a sequel, but in the vein of Rocky, but a continuation of "Irish" Mickey Ward's real-life boxing career. The story is really just getting started.

So I'd at least one sequel could work, but any more...no. What do you think? Is a sequel to The Fighter a good idea? A bad idea? And why?

David Slade Set To Direct 'Daredevil' Sequel/Reboot

Okay, so is the next Daredevil flick going to be a sequel to 2003 movie starring Ben Affleck, or is this going to be a straight-up reboot of the franchise? Though the first film spawned the Elektra spinoff, also starring Jennifer Garner from Daredevil, the film didn't necessarily warrant a sequel -- right away. Word on the street is that this film may try to be both: a continuation of the original film's story plus simultaneously rebooting the character. Um, okay. I'm a little confused, too. Oh well...

David Slade has been tapped to put Daredevil back on the bigscreen for 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment.

Fox introduced the Marvel Comics superhero at megaplexes in 2003, in an actioner that starred Ben Affleck as the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante who wears a red suit and wields a billyclub. Reviews were mixed at best.

Though the film wound up spinning off "Elektra" with Jennifer Garner, studio had hoped "Daredevil" would earn more than its $103 million domestic take and launch a series of sequels. Fox has been looking to redevelop the character since, but people close to the project say it's not a reboot per se -- more a continuation of the "Daredevil" saga. Studio has yet to hire a scribe, but writer would work closely with Slade.

Fox retained "Daredevil" rights by keeping the project in development over the years; had it not, rights would've reverted to Marvel Studios, which Disney acquired for $4 billion in 2009. Same goes for "Fantastic Four," for which Fox is eyeing new installments.

Though Daredevil doesn't rank as one of Marvel's most popular properties, character does have a following.

Created by Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett in 1964, Matt Murdock is a New York City lawyer who, after being blinded by radioactive material, finds his other senses heightened to superhuman levels and becomes Daredevil -- the "man without fear."

Slade has been considering several comicbook properties, including Fox's "Wolverine," but that gig wound up going to Darren Aronofsky ("Black Swan").

Slade most recently directed "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," which earned $698 million at the worldwide box office. His credits also include Sony's "30 Days of Night" and Lionsgate's "Hard Candy."

Slade is attached to Phoenix Pictures' horror pic "The Last Voyage of the Demeter."

He is repped by WME and Anonymous Content.

Hi-Def Look At The 'Quarantine 2: Terminal' Trailer

The trailer for Quarantine 2: Terminal has been released...officially. Though the first movie is basically a shot-for-shot remake of the Spanish film [REC], it is said that Quarantine 2 is not a direct remake of [REC] 2, but rather a sequel to the remake. Make sense? Ah, just watch the trailer...

Another Year Goes By, Still No 'Ghostbusters III'

Will Ghostbusters III ever see the light of day? I'm actually starting to think that it won't. At one time, it was probably my most anticipated movie -- but now, I could actually care less. More of the same old, same old...

Ivan, what will you direct next?

Reitman: There’s a lot of talk about Ghostbusters III. And there’s a very good script that the other cast members have read and liked. We’re just waiting for Bill Murray to read it.

Review: 'Anneliese: The Exorcist Tapes'

"The shocking account of history's most infamous case of demonic possession, compiled from the actual videotape and film recordings from over 76 exorcisms."

Let me rewrite that plot synopsis. Based on....Yes, BASED on one of history's most infamous case of demonic possession.

The Exorcist Tapes is a attempt to create a found footage style film based on the famous Anneliese exorcisms. Right From the start, this film is obviously not actual footage. Okay...so it's not real, who cares? Neither were Paranormal Activity, The Last Exorcism, or The Blair With Project. Well the difference between those films and this film is the complete lack of authenticity. The film never feels real, therefore your never scared nor drawn into it.

The movie is simple...Anneliese Michel, drinks her own urine, eats spiders, and speaks with demonic voices (all from the true story). She is possessed by a demon(s). So we have a battle between a group of people trying to help Anneliese with medicine vs religion...and that's basically all we get. Long drawn out scenes of people arguing , Audio from the actual case (creepy) thrown in to pad out the run-time, This movie is plain and simple...boring.

The only enjoyable thing about this film is the actress who plays Anneliese (whose name you can't find due to the filmmakers playing this up as a real film) . She gives an over-the-top fun performance (even gets topless) and you'll be wishing the movie spent more time with her. Unfortunately she put all her effort into a SHIT film.

An interesting story...the worst way to tell it.

- 0 out of 5 stars -

Actual audio recordings from the Anneliese Michel Exorcism.

Review: 'Let the Right One In', 'Let Me In'

How does a book written by John Ajvide Lindqvist (who wrote the screenplay for the Swedish version) get two adaptations from two different countries and have BOTH adaptations be really good? Well, you hire Swedish director Tomas Alfredson and American director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, who wrote the screenplay for the American version) to direct them and you get two very well made films.

Now, are there any differences than the obvious spoken language difference?  There are a few differences I noticed between the two.
I watched the American "Let Me In" first and compared to the Swedish "Let the Right One In", it's atmosphere is creepier, given the lighting is darker and more mellow in the American version. The Swedish version is more bright in lighting tone.
In a scene when the two child leads first meet, Eli (Swedish version, played by Lina Leandersson) has shoes on when she sits around in the playground where as the American version, Abby (played by Chloe Grace-Moretz) does not wear shoes.  Which then leads to the next change, the characters names are different. Eli and Oskar (played by Kare Hedebrant) in the Swedish verison, Abby and Owen (played by Kodi Smit-McPhee) in the American version.
Also, the American version adds a detective character (played by Elias Koteas) that wasn't in the Swedish version. The Swedish version focuses a little more on neighboring characters in the apartment the children live in.
One other difference is the first kill we see of the vampire girl. In the Swedish version, she kills a local resident who just came from a bar while in the American version, it's a random jogger.
Also, a couple scenes that are in both versions are shot in the reverse direction and the American version goes into more detail of the "father" character (played by Richard Jenkins in the American version, Per Ragner in the Swedish version) during his attempts at killing. (An amazing car crash scene is the perfect example for this) As well as how the "father" character uses acid to deform his face is different in both versions.

Anyway, (I'm sure you are getting bored of all the small differences) the story is about a young bullied boy named Oskar (or Owen) who finds out a girl and a man are moving next door to him. They form an, at first, uneasy friendship that turns into a sweet romance of sorts.  Oskar shows Eli (Abby) his Rubiks Cube he was playing on as Eli is curious as to what it is and lets her borrow it, only to return it solved the next day. Oskar, amazed, becomes instant friends.

But what makes this film interesting is that the man Eli lives with is her "father" and he goes out to acquire blood for the young girl because... well... she's a vampire.

And there lies the fun.  The romance isn't over the top or unbelievable, it's nice, low-key and very sweet. The chemistry between the two leads in either version is superb.

The bullies hit and make fun of Oskar (Owen) almost every time they see the boy and you just think, "My gosh! These kids are SO mean!"

Now, if I had to choose which version I'd prefer... I'd have to say with an eager hand up in the air, Let Me In.
The reason?? I believed in Owen being more of a bullied child than Oskar because Owen is more puny looking (no offense Kodi Smit-McPhee) and the atmosphere of the American version was more creepier. (at least in my opinion) Some may not like the creepiness of these films but I cherish it.

I absolutely love both films and I highly recommend seeing both versions! I don't want to spoil how the film ends or talk about key scenes in the film... you just have to go see the movies for yourself.

Review: '127 Hours'

I just finished watching this movie and let me just say this.. THIS FILM IS AMAZING!

It's a simple story really.. you might've even heard of it already.

It's based on a book "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" by Aron Ralston who is famous for cutting his own arm off to free himself from having his arm trapped by a boulder in Robbers Roost, Utah.

James Franco portrays the real life subject and Mr. Franco does an admirable job.

At the beginning of the film, Mr. Ralston is preparing for his destined canyon trip and heads off into the night with gear and his trusty video camera. When he finally reaches the canyon, he begins biking around the canyon, recording the whole ordeal which stalls when his bike loses control and he crashes. Of course, Aron being Aron, he just laughs it off and continues on his way.

After he stops biking and starts walking, he encounters two hikers, Kristi and Megan (played by Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn), who seem to be lost. Aron offers to help them find their destination proclaiming, "I can show you the way. The cool way!" (at least I think that's what the quote was) He also tells them that he is only a psychopath on the weekdays and today's a Saturday, so...

He and the two hikers find themselves in a tight place as they are inching their way through a small crease between two rocks. Aron tells them all will be fine and then falls under the two hikers. The two girls wonder what just happened. Aron has fallen into a pool of crystal clear water. The girls fall as well and have a good time.

After all the fun has stopped, they go their separate ways. Aron, feeling even MORE adventurous, starts hiking on his own again.

And there lies the trouble. He finds himself in a tight spot and just as he starts getting back into his groove, a boulder gets loose and he and the boulder descend... with Aron's arm being the victim. His arm is caught between a rock and a hard place (see what I did there). With only enough water for maybe 3 days and little food, he is trapped.

Clocking in at a total running time of just over 90 minutes, I'd say about 70 of it is just Aron trying to get himself free from this stupid rock. Aron begins questioning his past and starts a video diary on what he thinks are to be his last days on earth. The film then starts going back and forth on what seem to be either past events or possible hallucinations.

The editing in this film is a master craft and editor Jon Harris uses a side screen style to present it. When the film goes back from seemingly past and present events, you begin to wonder exactly what is actually real and what isn't.

As Aron tries every possible way to free himself, he comes to the conclusion that the only way out is to sacrifice his arm.

Danny Boyle does an amazing job directing this and James Franco carries this film on his shoulders and does an excellent job. James Franco definitely deserved his Oscar nomination.

The cinematography was beautiful in capturing the landscapes of the canyon.

I will go so far as to say that this is my favorite Danny Boyle film from the ones I've seen of his. I believe it's better than 28 Days Later, better than Slumdog Millionaire (which won Best Picture at the Oscars in 2009) better than Sunshine and WAY better than Trainspotting.  Do yourself a favor and watch this film! A triumph in storytelling and the will to live.

Scribe Josh Zetumer To Pen 'RoboCop' Reboot

The epic saga known only as the RoboCop remake has taken yet another turn. Well, actually, it has taken a big step forward. MGM has hired Josh Zetumer to write the screenplay for the Jose Padilha helmed project.

Seems like just yesterday that all the buzz was about Darren Aronofsky's vision of Detroit's finest robot. Oh well. At least the film is still moving forward and isn't dead in the water...because water rusts metal, and that's not good for robots (haha).

EXCLUSIVE: MGM has found its Robocop writer. The studio is hiring Josh Zetumer to script the reboot of the 1987 science fiction film about a cop brought back from death and drafted to become a remorseless and ruthless cyborg cop. That plan is subverted when suppressed memories of his past life come back to haunt him.

MGM recently hired Brazilian director Jose Padilha, helmer of the cop franchise Elite Squad and the documentary Bus 174. Padilha and Zetumer will collaborate closely in reinventing the film. Zetumer seems ready to pop. He first got on the radar when he wrote the script Infiltrator, which made the Black List. That spy thriller script is set at Warner Bros as a potential starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio. Zetumer also wrote drafts of Dune when Peter Berg was going to direct that remake at Paramount, and he scripted a fourth installment of The Bourne Identity before Universal instead developed a spinoff with Tony Gilroy. Zetumer just turned in Vale, a supernatural action thriller script at Warner Bros.

MGM, back in business under Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum after coming out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, has targeted Robocop as the first franchise in its reemergence plan. The project was a high priority for the last regime before its funding was frozen, with Darren Aronofsky planning to direct until he left to helm the Wolverine sequel at 20th Century Fox with Hugh Jackman. The studio also has its half share of The Hobbit, underway with Warner Bros distributing, and MGM is finalizing a distribution deal with Sony Pictures for the next James Bond installment, with Javier Bardem in discussions to play the villain role opposite Daniel Craig.

Zetumer's repped by UTA and Management 360.

Thanks to Deadline for the scoop.
