'Mission: Impossible 4' Losing Its Title

Here's an interesting article regarding the possible name change of Mission: Impossible 4. Here's what Moviehole had to say...

Yesterday it was announced that Oscar Nominee Jeremy Renner will be one of the two floating heads - the other being series star Tom Cruise - on the upcoming "Mission : Impossible 4" one-sheet.

Today it was revealed that Paramount, seemingly even scared to release a film that's title is associated with 'Tom Cruise' , likely won't be calling the film "MI:4" - in fact, it likely won't bare the "Mission : Impossible" moniker at all. It's potentially going to go the "Dark Knight" route and pick a title that's not automatically identified as being part of a series.

Variety also says the film won't pick up from where J.J Abrams' "Mission : Impossible 3" left off - whatever that means (no Michelle Monaghan?). Unlike the previous films, where Cruise's Ethan Hunt led a team, this new film will center around only two IMF agents - Hunt and Renner's character. And apparently Renner ("The Hurt Locker") will have just as much screentime as his big-time co-star. Should this film be successful, the studio apparently wants to retain the services of both Cruise and Renner for another "Impossible" mission - but it's possible that in the next film the latter will have the lead role while Cruise's Hunt will be reduced to a secondary character.

Also on the topic of "Mission... whatever they call it", Deadline reports that the hunt is on to find a female operative (which is kinda confusing considering Variety says the film will only center around Cruise and Renner's agents - unless, of course, this female agent is killed or even kidnapped within the first few minutes thus pathing the way for Cruise and Renner to suit up!?). Actresses that have tested for the role include Kristen Kruek (Lana Lang from "Smallville"), Paula Patton ("Precious") and Lauren German ("Hostel Part 2"). Not sure whether this is the same role that the previously announced Jacinda Barrett ("Middle Men") and Noomi Rapace ("Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") were looking into.

The third sequel to "Mission : Impossible" will be directed by Brad Bird ("The Incredibles") and produced by J.J Abrams ("MI:3").

'Terminator 3000' Set To Go

There is CG Terminator sequel in the works...and not a sequel to Salvation, but to the 1984 Cameron classic. Here's what Movie had to say...

.... don't get too excited AB King, there'd be an even lesser need for Schwarzenegger to appear in this one (though that doesn't mean it mightn't be too difficult to coax him into lending his lungs to it).

Hannover House tells us they've entered into an agreement with Vancouver-based Red Bear Entertainment, for "Terminator 3000," envisioned as a $70-million dollar budgeted, 3-D animated feature film based on the characters and situations introduced in the original "Terminator" feature. Though it's suggested the storyline will pick up after the events of the 1984 original, no plot details have been announced. The company is aiming for a PG-13 here.

Hemdale produced and distributed director James Cameron's original "Terminator" feature, but released the sequel rights in 1990 to Carolco, which later transferred the rights to ultimately end up under the control of Halcyon Media. Santa Barbara based Pacificor, LLC prevailed in the most recent auction and transfer of rights to the franchise in January, and retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed "Terminator 3000" project.

Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment will release details of the production timing, financing and principal production personnel later this year, in advance of a proposed January, 2011 start.

Though I'm not a huge fan of animated spin-off's, I must admit, anything sounds better than a follow-up to that stenchy "Terminator Salvation" at this point.

Ving Rhames Returns In 'Mission: Impossible 4'

Ving Rhames has signed on for the fourth Mission: Impossible movie. Here's the scoop Moviehole gave us...

Ving Rhames confirmed on Lopez Tonight this week that he'll be back as go-to good-guy Luther Stickell in the recently greenlit "Mission : Impossible 4".

In the "M:I" films, Rhames plays an expert computer hacker who works for the fictional "IMF" (Impossible Missions Force) division of the CIA alongside Ethan Hunt.

Brad Bird directs the new "Mission : Impossible" film, which, as we reported yesterday, Tom Cruise will be sadly underpaid on.
