Cameron talks Avatar 2
James Cameron talks a little Avatar 2 in this piece from Moviehole...
Looks like TCF’s decision not to print any “free tickets” to Avatar (as in, in-season double passes) will pay off. James Cameron’s spectacular-spectacular has about $50 million shy of making its money back. By the end of the month, Cameron might just have enough coin to breathe, relax for a week, and then make his inevitable sequel.
Speaking of the sequel, Cameron told The L.A Times that the next movie (he has a trilogy planned) won’t necessarily be set on Pandora. There are a few other moons orbiting the distant Polyphemus he wouldn’t mind getting up close and personal with.
‘’We have some story ideas about how to branch out into other moons of Polyphemus and the Alpha Centauri A (ACA) solar system’’, the filmmaker said in a video interview with the website.
With a lot of the sets already built, creatures designed, cast, er, already cast, and treatments penned, Cameron says he could knock “Avatar 2” out a lot quicker than he did “Avatar” – which mightn’t be saying much.

Small Ghostbusters 3 update

Here's a small Ghostbusters 3 update courtesy of Clint over at Moviehole...
If there’s one thing I know, when it comes to “Ghostbusters 3” we shouldn’t get too excited – or take what either Dan Aykroyd or Harold Ramis says about it as gospel.
You see, the film has been in development for more than a decade (Aykroyd was stumping his “Ghostbusters in Hell” script around Hollywood before the first “Star Wars” prequel got greenlit) and the cast (well, everyone but Bill Murray – who’s never seemed that keen to bring Venkman back to cinemas; still doesn’t seem over enthusiastic.) has been talking it just as long, if not longer – especially Aykroyd, who, given any and every opportunity, will swear black-and-blue it’s ‘happening’.
Granted, things do seem like they’ve inched forward in the “G3” department – the film has writers (Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the Emmy-nominated writer-producers on the Steve Carell version of "The Office"), Bill Murray is said to be onboard (though, as I still, still doesn’t seem that enthused to do it - - gotta wonder whether he’ll pull out a week before pre-production?), Sigourney Weaver’s been dropping plot hints (Venkman as a Ghost, her now-grown son Oscar as a Ghostbuster), and now, according to co-star Harold Ramis, the film has a start date too.
According to the actor cum director (it’s still not certain whether Ivan Reitman will direct “Ghostbusters 3” – he may only produce – with some suggesting that Ramis may end up not only performing in the film but directing it. Shit, I hope not! did anyone else see "Year One"!?), “Ghostbusters 3” lenses next Summer and will be released the following year (2011) in Cinemas.
Ramis made the comments in an interview with Heeb, adding that the storyline of the film will feature ‘’some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future”.
Let’s stop right there. What the hell is that!? Christopher Lloyd in ''Back to the Future''!? So, an old Ghostbuster is going to lend his time-traveling device to the new recruits? Or maybe Venkman’s (Ghost is) stuck in purgatory (as opposed to ‘The Wild West’, like Lloyd was in “Back to the Future III”) and the Ghostbusters have to save him? (Suppose that wouldn’t be a bad way to go – would only mean Bill Murray would have to be set a couple of days. He’d appear at the start and the end of the film). Still, a little too “Tron Legacy”, no?
One thing’s for certain, Aykroyd’s chasing a couple of young beauties to play new Ghostbusters recruits (in addition to the lucky schmuck who is cast to play Dana Barron’s son, Oscar) with Allysa Milano and Eliza Dushku (of “Buffy” fame) said to be his top picks. Shall see. So long as he’s able to entice Rick Moranis (in addition to Murray and Sigourney Weaver) back into the fold, I don’t think anyone will complain who else the casting directors pad the film with.

Terminator 5 on backburner

This not-so-surprising news comes courtesy of Moviehole...
Producer Dan Lin, out stumping “Sherlock Holmes” (read my review here), tells Collider that he’s not sure that he (or Warners) will be involved in the next “Terminator” movie.
With Halycon having to sell the rights to get out of the red, it’s likely the new owner (which, mind you, could be Warner – but more likely Sony, or the oft-rumoured Summit), will have their own distributor (if even domestically) ready and waiting to send “T5” out in cans.
‘’We’ll know more in the beginning of February. It’s being sold in an auction process. Several studios are bidding and independent financiers are bidding on the rights, but we won’t know until we go through the court auction process’’, Lin says, adding ‘’Warner Brothers may be one of the future studios bidding. I don’t know because I don’t work for Warner Brothers, but don’t know. The actual studios bidding have not made themselves public.’’
As Lin says, no work is currently being done on a “Terminator 5” – in other words, McG’s sequel plan is more or less one of the filmmaker’s pipe dream – and whoever takes over the franchise may decide not to do a sequel to “Salvation”.
“There’s no active development in future Terminator movies until the court proceedings are completed”, says the producer, who’s also behind a “Tomb Raider” reboot and the upcoming “LEGO movie”.

Lots of sequel news

This comes from Moviehole...
The Hangover 2 Those boisterous blokes at the center of the 2009 hit might be headed to Thailand next time 'round, according to CHUD. Funnily enough, writer/director Todd Phillips had written a sequel to "Old School" which would've also taken place in Thailand. I guess since that's seemingly not happening anymore (Will Ferrell wasn't keen), Phillips is free to shift both the locale, and some of the gags no doubt, over to "The Hangover 2". Meantime, Heather 'Rollergirl' Graham tells E! she's got some ideas for the sequel (likely too late love, sounds like Phillips has his script complete). "I think Stu should get her pregnant, and that she should do a pregnant strip dance. I know it sounds so wrong, but it sounds so right. That'd be really cool. Seriously, I wish. We need to get someone to write that script."
Sherlock Holmes 2 A few months back word got around that Brad Pitt might've been approached to play the villainous Moriarty in Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes". The plan was, according to plausible-enough rumour mongers, for Pitt to make a surprise cameo at the end of the first film, setting up his appearance in the inevitable sequel. The Hollywood Reporter later confirmed the rumours - well, the bit about Pitt doing the sequel, anyway; they never confirmed the 'special appearance' in part 1 whisper. Unfortunately, there's no Pitt cameo in "Holmes" - though Moriaty does appear, kinda, in the pic - but that doesn't mean there won't be a Pitt/Ritchie reunion (they did "Snatch" together) later on. Ritchie, asked by MTV whether or not Pitt has been contacted about playing the role, said : "I can't tell you that. Maybe Moriarty will surface again .... I'm not allowed to say anything." So, do we consider that confirmation that Pitt's onboard the sequel!?
Hoodwinked 2 Won't be ready for release in January, as planned. Boo-Hoo... Not. TWC's David Glasser tells The Los Angeles Times that the pic, originally set to premiere the weekend of Jan. 15, now will debut in February at the earliest. Why? the sequel to the fairytale farce just isn't ready. Hmm... sounds promising!
Wild Hogs 2 Since his appointment as the CEO of Disney, Rick Ross has canned a McG film ("Captain Nemo : 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"), a shifty-sounding Robin Williams/Anna Faris laffer ("Wedding Banned") and now, the sequel to "Wild Hogs" (Starting to like this guy already!). Despite having re-recruited John Travolta, William H.Macy, Tim Allen, and Martin Lawrence for the follow-up to the 2004 hit, Ross seemingly felt like he'd, again, be doing us all a favour if he aborted it. Merry Christmas back at ya, Sir! (MTV)
