Review: The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto

The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto
Rating : 1.5 out of 5
Format: Blu-Ray
- Picture looks great -
Director : Rob Zombie
Written By Rob Zombie and Tom Papa

This movie tries way too hard. Written with the intent to be edgy and shock the viewer the film goes out of its way to throw in as many cartoon breasts as possible.

It relies on the fact that these are CARTOONS swearing, having sex, and slicing the heads of zombies. None of it is shocking unless you view cartoons as a medium only for children. The film is perfect for stay at home housewifes and soccer moms to bitch about.

Final Thought: It's kind of hard to enjoy a movie when all you can visualize are the writers thinking of ways to include as many tits/sex jokes as possible.

Halloween 3D production stopped

Here's the skinny on the latest Halloween installment, set to be filmed in 3D. This comes from Deadline Hollywood...

EXCLUSIVE: So here's what happened: the script only came in Friday, the first draft that Dimension Films had seen. And The Weinstein Co was rushing to get the film into production for a November start date because it has to be done by January when director Patrick Lussier starts a film for Avi Lerner. A release for Summer 2010 was planned. Sure, the rumor mill claims TWC is out of money amid all those layoffs, and TWC couldn't agree on a $2.5M budget battle with Lussier, and TWC had key crew ready to fly to Shreveport. But I understand that Bob Weinstein shut down H3D pre-production "because Bob just felt it was rushing too fast." Now Dimension plans to start the film after My Bloody Valentine 3D helmer Lussier is free. (After all, the film editor got his directing start making Dracula 2000 for the Weinsteins.) But I know what you're thinking: Rob Zombie's reboot sequel Halloween II did lousy at the box office so perhaps TWC wants to cut its losses. "We make those pics for very little money and tight marketing dollars so anything north of $25M is a huge success for us," an insider tells me. Meanwhile, HII, whose domestic total is now $32M, will get a re-release on Halloween in selected theaters for midnight showings.

Neve Campbell Signs for Scream 4!

According to Variety, Bob Weinstein has said that Neve Campbell has signed on to reprise her role of Sidney Prescott in Scream 4, the first part of a new trilogy. While Courtney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette are signed on to reprise their roles for a second trilogy, it seems "Sidney" may only be returning for the fourth installment.

What does this mean for the main protagonist of the original Scream trilogy? Will she die in the film, be shown in a flashback or given some sort of minor supporting role? Is Neve just being conservative and going script to script, film to film, before deciding to sign on?

We'll likely have to wait until at least late next year, presumably near when the film would come out, to find out what fate awaits Sidney Prescott.

A little Lost Boys 3 news

This comes from Brad over at B-D...

Bloody Disgusting learned this morning that Dario Piana, director of The Deaths of Ian Stone, is getting behind the camera for Warner Premiere's Lost Boys 3: The Thirst, which was scripted by Evan Charnov. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are said to return at the Frog brothers, although I could only confirm Feldman's involvement. Here's the exclusive plot crunch: "When veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog finds himself destitute and almost friendless, he thinks his live has hit bottom - but wealthy vampire-romance novelist Gwen Liebling offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son Peter from the Alpha Vampire D.J.Dusk. With the help of his friends Zoe, Lars and Blake, Edgar heads into a bloody battle to exterminate evil." Shooting is set to begin this November in South Africa.

Connery back for Indy 5?

This comes from IOL...

Sean Connery is set to return to the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise.

The 79-year-old actor turned down the chance to reprise his role as the father of the daredevil archaeologist in last movie ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, and the script hinted his character Professor Henry Jones had passed away.

However, creators on the next movie, the fifth in the hugely successful franchise, are planning to bring Henry back.

A source said: "Steven Spielberg has been working on a script with George Lucas and there is an element of the story that could see Sean returning. Anything is possible in these movies and if Sean wants to return he will become central to the new story."

Earlier this week, Harrison Ford – who plays the title character – revealed he is ready to reprise the role.

He said: "The story for the new 'Indiana Jones' is in the process of taking form. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work.

"If the script is good, I'll be very happy to put the costume on again."

Harrison first played the iconic character in 1981 blockbuster 'Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark'.

Sean starred in the third film ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’.

The 'Indiana Jones' series is one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time.

Ali Larter back for Resident Evil 4

This welcoming news comes from Bloody-Disgusting...

With Sony Screen Gems gearing up to shoot Resident Evil: Afterlife in Toronto next month, casting is well underway. Thus far, Boris Kodjoe (who stars in the forthcoming Surrogates) and Milla Jovovich are confirmed to star in the 3-D sequel being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (who returns to the franchise as he got behind the camera for the first film). While out promoting Surrogates, Kodjoe revealed to BlackFilm another two names to add to the list. Ali Larter is set to return to the franchise as she took on the role of Claire Redfield in 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction, while Underworld and "Prison Break"'s Wentworth Miller also stars. Afterlife is slated for a 3D release on August 27, 2010.

Spider-Man 4 gets a release date

The next installment of the money-making Spider-Man franchise has been given a release date, this comes from good guy Clint over at Moviehole...

Sony has announced that Peter Parker will sprog his next messy-web in May of 2011, says Variety.

The soon-to-shoot “Spider-Man 4” – which reunites the ‘Golden’ team of Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Sam Raimi – will hit standard theatres and IMAX on May 6, 2011. It’ll be the first Summer tentpole release of the year.

Another superhero flick, “The First Avenger : Captain America”, had originally been scheduled to open that day – but Marvel decided recently to push it back to July 22.

“Thor”, another comic-book flick, will be out shortly after “Spider-Man 4” – on June 17.

The last two “Spider-Man” pics were also released in Imax theaters, and by the time the next one bows, Imax and Sony should benefit as there will be more of the large-format theaters in the marketplace.

"Our network has grown significantly, and we continue to roll out new theaters virtually every week, giving more moviegoers the opportunity to experience the movie in Imax," said Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond.

The Gary Ross-penned “Spider-Man 4” is rumoured to be the final instalment for Raimi and stars Maguire and Dunst, with suggestions the studio may either recast or reboot the series for “Spider-Man 5” and “Spider-Man 6”.

Silent Hill 2 tidbits

This comes from Moviehole...

Despite earlier reports suggesting he wouldn't be involved (granted, that was 2007 when he said that - - and he's since been in need of a few dollars), The Hollywood Reporter says Roger Avary is indeed penning the sequel to 2006's "Silent Hill". What's that line in "Twins" that Danny De Vito teaches big-brother Schwarzenegger? Oh Yes... "Money talks, Bullshit walks".

The original, starring Radha Mitchell and based on the Konami video game of the same name, is one of the ten most successful video-game adaptations of all time.

Directed by Christophe Gans, "Silent Hill" followed Rose (Radha Mitchell), a mother who takes her troubled adopted daughter, Sharon, to a town the girl cries out for while sleepwalking. After being knocked unconscious in a car crash outside the town, Rose awakens to find her daughter missing and the town engulfed in an alternate reality of fog and falling ash. While looking for her daughter, Rose encounters all sorts of horrible fiends.

Samuel Hadida of Davis Films will produce the sequel.

As for a director, Bloody Disgusting reported in May that Avary might be behind the megaphone. We shall see...

The sequel will shoot next year - after Hadida's "Resident Evil 4" is in the can.

Meanwhile Avary, who with Quentin Tarantino won an Oscar for his typing efforts on "Pulp Fiction", is awaiting manslaughter charges.

In January of last year, Avary was arrested and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony drunken driving following an accident in which his car spun out of control and slammed into a telephone pole.

Killed in the crash was Andreas Zini, a resident of Italy who was apparently visiting Avary and his wife.

Avary's wife Gretchen was ejected from the car and found in the road by sheriff's deputies. She had serious injuries, but survived.

Bruce Campbell talks Spider-Man 4

Moviehole interviewed cult movie fave Bruce Campbell...and in the interview he revealed a few details about the hush-hush fourth Spider-Man film...

I've interviewed Bruce Campbell a couple of times - and think he's great value, but I tell ya, it's always hard to tell when he's joking and when he's not. He's like a father that finds it hard to communicate with his kid, so makes jokes to cover up for his inability to have a normal conversation with you. But I mean that in a good way. It's fun how Campbell enjoys fuckin' with reporters... Yankin' his, well, Chin.... and giving the driest, most flat-panned answer to the most normal of questions . And because a wide-eyed cheeky smile usually follows whatever response he offers, it's usually clear that he is having a bit of fun with ya.

Today, Campbell tells Access Hollywood that not only does "Spider-Man 4" start up in January (that's likely true, Sam Raimi told me recently February - so same ball-park) but that he'll have a much bigger role in this one than he did the other films. Hmmm... could be true.... maybe?

Now what does he mean exactly? Who knows! Knowing Campbell he's likely just found out from buddy Raimi that he's going to providing the voice of the local radio announcer on Peter Parker's wireless in the pic, and either considers that a 'promotion' from playing a waiter. Or maybe he is indeed playing an actual 'part' this time around? But as much as we "Evil Dead" fans would love to see Ash donning some sort of villain costume and taking on the pint-sized web-sprogger in the streets of New York City, it's unlikely Campbell's up for that big a role - but wouldn't that be fun!? No?

I'd probably bet on the big guy playing - if he's indeed got a bigger role - something like Peter Parker's driver, or Mary-Jane's favourite uncle 'Morty' (who appears in a Christmas scene - or something).

But god it's a slow fuckin' news day if we're talking about Bruce Campbell having a role in "Spider-Man" (which we already know!) and it potentially being bigger than the blink-and-you'll-miss-him parts he's played in "Spider-Man" 1 thru 3!

Pirates 4 gets title, release date

The fourth chapter in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga has officially been given a title...and a release date. The film will be given the subtitle of On Stranger Tides. Here's the story from E!...

Johnny Depp stormed Disney's D23 Expo today in Anaheim, Calif., riding a giant pirate ship, wearing full Jack Sparrow garb and bearing big news:

The fourth film in his huge swashbuckling series will be called Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. And it'll storm theaters summer 2011.

This was a surprise appearance, of course, Depp's favorite kind, and made minutes after Kermit and Miss Piggy popped in to promote the new Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made (to be written by Jason Segel).

"I'm looking for a talking Frog," Depp mumbled to the crowd of 5,000 or so fans assembled for the expo. "I like frogs."

And then he sailed off.

The Pirates movies have grossed more than $1 billion in the United States alone.

Derek Mears addresses new Jason rumors

The fine folks over at HorrorBid updated their site today with an interesting article where Derek Mears (Jason Voorhees in the Friday remake) addressed the rumors of Tim Sylvia replacing him...

I'm assuming most of you knew about the rumor floating around concerning Derek Mears not reprising his role as Jason Voorhees in the next installment of Friday the 13th (and if you didn't, what rock were you hiding under?). Yeah, yeah we already know it was debunked as a result of a mix up but now Mr. Mears has spoken and if there was ever any doubt this puts the nail in the coffin.

Follow up:

It's funny how one little sports reporter can mix up two slasher legends and the chaos ensues! How could he mix up Jason with Michael Myers? I mean it's not like they both wear white masks, or enjoy killing teenagers, or neither speak . . . hmmmmm. Anyways, (sorry guys I couldn't help it) one of Horrorbid's fellow myspace friends contacted Mr. Mears and asked him directly about this mix up.

Here is the conversation word for word:

Donnie: I saw your movie yesterday and LOVED IT!!!! Then, I just go off horrorbid.com where they say this MMA Fighter is playing Jason in the sequel to your movie. From the looks of things the guy needs to keep his head in winning his fights for once rather than playing a role in a movie. But this is only a rumor so far, so could you approve or deny this please?

Derek: The rumor is false. I am happy you digged the new film. Hope you have a great weekend-Derek

Donnie: Okay, so the guy I was talking about not doing Jason in this sequel. You doing the part then?

Derek: Being that the film hasn't been green lighted they can't offically offer any roles. I'd like to return, so cross your fingers.

So there you go, but wait a sec? Why was I under the assumption that Mears had already signed on for the sequel? According to Derek above he's not been offered the role yet (officially). So yes, the rumor about a former UFC Champ replacing him is false but Derek's return is still in limbo? Maybe I just made that up in my mind since Derek was a PHENOMENAL Jason and I couldn't imagine anybody else doing the part at this point. Suddenly I'm not feeling so snug about the sequel to the Friday '09 remake. Like Mr. Mears said above, lets cross our fingers he gets the part!

Once again I've got to ramble on about how great of a guy Derek Mears is. He always takes the time to talk to his fans and doesn't ignore them (which he easily could do). If you EVER have a chance to meet him do so, just gives you an added level of appreciation for what he's trying to do for one of our coveted Horror Slashers! Thanks to Donnie for the update!

Plan 9 from Outer Space Teaser Trailer

Yesterday (9-9-09) the teaser trailer for John Johnson's remake of Plan 9 From Outer Space (simply titled Plan 9) hit the web.

Watch the trailer below.

Is Point Break 2 dead in the water?

This may come as a surprise to some, but to the majority of fans who have been following the news on Point Break: Indo closely, this is a no-brainer. It appears that the long gestated sequel may officially be dead in the water (pun intended).

This comes from Moviehole:

I've been following a story throughout most of the day.... and it may just have come to an unexpected (or was it?) conclusion:

11:56 am : OK, wanna know what's going on with "Point Break Indo"? Nothing. It's dead. Two as-good-as-official sources have just confirmed for me that the film has fallen over. It may get back up later, but at this stage it's not happening and the attached cast have been freed up to work on other projects. Had a feeling this might have been the case.

10:50am : One person I did chat to about the film this morning was Lori Petty, who you'll recall played Tyler in the 1991 classic. She knows nothing much about "Point Break Indo", only that she'd like to be in it - and quite frankly, can't understand why she hasn't been asked back to cameo.

Petty, agreeing that the original is now a cult classic, thinks its "ridiculous" that they'd do a sequel without any link to the original Kathryn Bigelow film.

"How can do they do a sequel and not put me, Keanu [Reeves] or Patrick [Swayze] in it?", says the actress. "I mean, even a cameo - like a Where's Waldo kind of thing... [we could be] in the background somewhere. It would've sold like ten million dollars more tickets!"

So, in other words - RGM, Wadlow... Lori Petty wants in on the "Point Break" sequel. She may even be prepared to get her feet wet again for it.

10:25am : I don't know what's going on with the "Point Break" sequel. It's been All Quiet on the Western Front with that one for months now. I've tried to contact RGM in Singapore to get an update - but can't get a response. Also tried touching base with director Jeff Wadlow (who replaced Jan de Bont) - but his ISP seems to be down too. All I can gather is that the film has been pushed back a few months - or put on hold permanently, since it was originally supposed to lens a couple of months back.

The last we heard was Damien Walshe-Howling ("Underbelly") had snagged the role of the villain, and that Rick Otto was playing one of the good guys - if not the good guy, undercover agent Billy Dalton. Some of the supporting roles were also being filled. And filming locations had been chosen in Indonesia, but mostly Australia.

I have no clue as to what to think...

Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral

In a recent interview with Dread Central, Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 director Victor Salva gave them an update on the long awaited sequel.

Heres what he had to say......

"The financing is just coming together, so perhaps we will be in preproduction shortly. We have been saying this for a year now, but that’s really about all I can with any certainty."
He also goes on to say that Jonathan Breck will return as the creeper along with Gina Phillips returning as Trish.

In regards to the Creeper...

"After much fan feedback, to give him his truck back for the new film"

Review: Black Santa's Revenge

Black Santa's Revenge (2007)
Unrated
Written And Directed By David Walker

Star Rating

* * Out Of * * * * *

Originally a comic published in Baddazz Mofo Magazine, Black Santas Revenge (Inspired by 70's Blazplotation films) stars Joe Grizzly Himself, Ken Foree (Dawn Of The Dead) as down-and-out santa who decides to take revenge on a gang of thugs responsible for stealing all of the toys in town.

Sounds Good? To some degree it is. Unfortunately Black Santa's Revenge (like many of the Blaxplotation films of the 70's) is somewhat dull. Clocking in at a poorly paced 20 minutes BSR never reaches it's self proclaimed "MINI EPIC" status but does offer up a bit of fun.

Director David Walker keeps the story simple, realizing the main draw of the film is co-producer and genre vet Ken Foree. Wielding a shotgun, and spouting off one liners, this is Ken Foree at his best. He genuienly seems to be having fun due to his constant (unintentional?) smiling while brawling with the gang.

Everything leading up the the final act is mediocre at best. The mandatory kids telling santa what they want for christmas while he's falling asleep scene is here, some awful green screen that tosses any 70's vibe the film had out the window, a police questioning sequence that goes on for way too long, and a strip club scene thrown in for a little bit of nudity. It's not terrible just bland.

The showdown between the toy thieves and foree starts off strong but quickly desolves into a choppy action sequence with foree rolling around on the ground. Still this is easily the most enjoyable act of the film.

In the end the film feels more like a rough cut.

Overall Black Santa's Revenge is more of a stocking stuffer.

Rampage is new Mr. T -- in A-Team redux

Wow, it seems like a lot of UFC fighters are making major movie news as of late, but this rumor is actually true. And for this special TV 2 Film edition, I'll leave it with this little tidbit from Moviehole...again...

UFC fighter Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson was rumoured to be up for the role of B.A Baracus in Joe Carnahan’s “A-Team” movie a couple of weeks ago – but the reports were speedily dismissed by the sportsman’s peeps.

Today however The Vancouver Sun reports that Jackson has indeed won the much-coveted gig (everyone from Ice Cube to Tyrese Gibson was said to be in the running at one time or another), suggesting he was in town as recent as last week prepping for the role made famous by Mr T in the 80s classic.

Says the outlet, ‘’The Sun has learned Rampage was in Vancouver on August 19 to discuss the role with producers and arrived in town Friday to prepare for filming.’’

If indeed true (and sounds like it is), Jackson joins Liam Neeson (Hannibal Smith) and Bradley Cooper (‘Faceman’) for the Twentieth Century Fox flick. It hasn’t been announced who’s playing Howling Mad Murdock yet.

31-year-old Jackson rose to prominence in Japan's Pride Fighting Championships where he was noted for his powerful body slams including a knockout victory via power bomb over Ricardo Arona.

Unlike Mr T, who played Baracus on the series, Jackson’s a bit of a trouble-maker off screen.

He was in the news last year when he was booked on suspicion of felony reckless driving, and felony hit and run after striking several vehicles. He reportedly led pursuing officers on a chase while driving on the wrong side of the street and on city sidewalks in his lifted Ford F-350 with his picture painted on the side. During the chase one of the tires blew out on his truck and he continued to flee while driving on his rims and showering the street with sparks. Tsk, Tsk..

Sheen back for Wall Street 2

Charlie Sheen is returning to reprise his role in upcoming sequel to Wall Street, a film about the consequences of insider trading (sounds boring, but the film is very interesting). Here's what Moviehole had to say...

Speaking to The New York Times about his upcoming “Wall Street” sequel, director Oliver Stone confirms that Charlie Sheen will be back to play Bud Fox in the flick – if even fleetingly.

Sheen will apparently make a cameo appearance in the sequel – set to lens this week in New York – reprising his role from the 1987 hit.

In the original, Bud (Sheen, then hot off Stone’s “Platoon”) was a determined young stockbroker at Jackson-Steinem. His hero is the extremely successful but unprincipled corporate marauder Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), a callous and legendary Wall Street player whose values could not clash more with those of Bud's father Carl (Martin Sheen). In an effort to win Gekko as a client, Bud visits with the raider on his birthday and pitches him stocks which Bud had been analysing for some time. And thus the relationship starts…. And Bud’s downfall begins.

At the end of the film, Bud – whose dodgy dealings with Gecko have caught up with him - wears a wire for the FBI, managing to get Gecko to mention on tape some of his illegal business activities. He turns the wire tapes over to the federal authorities, who suggest that his sentence will be lightened in exchange for his help with the federal investigation into Gekko. The film ends with Bud arriving at the courthouse.

Can only assume Bud Fox will be back on the floor in the sequel – having now been punished for his wrongdoings in the 80s.

It seems Josh Brolin is also now a lock for the film. Said to have been in talks for the past month, Stone has confirmed the “No Country for Old Men” star is onboard to play an evil investment banker in the film.

Others making small appearances in the film include Nouriel Roubini, a New York University economics professor and chairman of a consulting firm, and Jim Cramer, the hyperkinetic host of “Mad Money” on CNBC.

A lot of the action in the film, Stone tells the newspaper, will take place at the Federal Reserve Building.

The stock exchange, whose hectic trading floor was a frequent image in the first film, will be less prominent.

“In the original ’87 movie there was no Federal Reserve, we didn’t get into that,” Stone said. “But now the world has changed radically. This is part of the bulwark of the system.”

And when we’re reintroduced to Michael Douglas’s Gordon Gecko again he’s “out of prison in the beginning of this movie, he essentially has to redefine himself, redefine his character,” Stone said. “He’s looking for that second chance.”

Shia LaBeouf, Susan Sarandon, Frank Langella and Carey Mulligan also star in the film.

Suspiria begins in 2010

Producer Luca Guadagino tells Variety that the Suspiria remake is still alive and will begin filming in 2010.
David Gordon Green is still attatched to direct.

Children Of The Corn gets another remake

We all know that SyFy will be broadcasting it's remake of the popular Stephen King story on September 26th, but.....

Variety has broken the news that screenwriter Ehren Krueger (Scream 3, The Ring) has been hired by the Weinsteins to bring us the third adaptation of the tale. Weinsteins told Variety that they are looking to "Bring something new to the story".

Hopefully that something new isn't 3D.

No date was announced.

Lussier in talks for HALLOWEEN 3D

Despite the recent confirmation from Variety, Bloody-Disgusting reports that My Bloody Valentine director Patrick Lussier is only "IN TALKS" to helm the sequel/rumored reboot slated for a 2010 release.

Resident Evil 5 planned after 4

The fifth film in the Resident Evil series is set to be a semi-reboot. I guess it's a prequel, really. It'll tell the story of how the virus was created. Here's what B-D had to say...

While Sony Screen Gems is prepping for Resident Evil 4: Afterlife, the 3D sequel slated to arrive in theaters August 27, 2010, Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively (and confirmed) that the studio is already looking forward to the fifth film. While Milla Jovovich is confirmed for Afterlife, it's got to be getting expensive and (increasingly) difficult to keep her onboard, even though she is married to producer Paul W.S. Anderson. Instead of moving forward with the ongoing story, the studio is planning a quasi-reboot, which is tentatively titled Resident Evil Begins. While it's a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident. What do you guys think about a reboot only 8-9 years after the franchise began?

The TRUTH about Halloween 3D

This bit of information comes from a VERY reliable source via Michael-Myers.net. Courtesy of thewholefknshow...

I just spent the entire evening discussing all things Halloween with my "guy in the know" and there are a few things you should know. First off, Harvey and Bob are originally from WNY. As is my friend who holds the high position that he does, they've spent many hours together over the years and that particular fact was something that even I never knew until this evening.

Here's the deal. Halloween 3D is a REAL possibility. But, there is some serious issues between all parties involved in this series. Infact, the power struggle is alot deeper than anyone ever thought it was. The way I hear it, Harv and Bobby have absolutely NO love for Halloween what-so-ever. And this is not an exaggeration I'm told. Harv and Bob are about the bottom line, especially now with the financial peril that they are currently in. The "gimmicky" side of H3D is what they're looking for to make the almighty dollar count rise.

Now, here comes the interesting news.

H3D has been in developement for alot longer than you all thought. You see, H3D was to BE H2. The idea that they initially had for H2, was the concept that is NOW H3D. When I posted to you fine ladies and gents that the powers that be DID NOT want Zombie for H2, it was Malek who did, it was the truth. Harv and Bobby are not big fans of Zombie, they never really were. The way it was explained to me this evening is that the power struggle is YEARS old, going all the way back to Halloween 6/666 between the now defunct Touchstone Pictures (Disney owned/distributer of Halloween 6/666) and Trancas/Akkads.

Moustapha was shopping Halloween around after H8, Lionsgate were the front runners to get the rights etc. However, Harv and Bobby had a stake as well and the deal could never go down. The Akkads and the "Brothers Miramax" were not friends, it was a rocky relationship from the get go I was told and things were always a battle. From story, to writers and of course to directors and such. Harv and Bob have the money, Malek needs them, not the other way around. They weren't happy with Rob at all and the way this film went down, so they began prepping the H3D idea on their own.

What is known currently about H3D is this, Rob is NOT involved, Malek isn't happy, and the 'Inside' guys' storyline will have NOTHING to do with this new film. That script is dead in the water. I can't get into what I was told specifically, but I can say that the events of H2 are very muddy and you can expect alot of magic tricks to bring Michael back to life. Zombie's story literally was intending to kill Michael for good. And the only reason that Harv and Bobby allowed it to go that way is because they KNEW ahead of time that their new idea was in developement and Rob's ending would have ZERO bearing on what H3D would be all about.

Now of course there will be the odd kid/clown who will doubt what I'm saying right now. That's fine. I know who I know, and that guy is at the top of the heap in terms of what he knows and what he found out for me. He knows my love and my passion for this series.

And in closing, I saw the screener for H2 weeks back, some post prod had yet to be complete, music added etc. I took my Wife today as some of you might recall me mentioning last night. In her words she "...wanted to see the trainwreck for herself" She wasn't impressed to say the least, but then again, neither was the majority of the population. Having said that, some of what Rob shot was beautiful. Some of the visuals were stunning, well lit, and just all around great looking. It was the writing and the acting that really were beyond saving. Rob is not a writer, he's a visionary. His eye is wonderful, is writing is horrendous and is an amateur in that dept at best. Rob would've best suited to direct and NOTHING more, no casting influence, no nothing. Just direct better actors, based on someone elses script. When Rob gets carte blanche i.e. writing, producing and directing, it's a disaster area.

And there you have it. So my bet is that H3D will be yet another reboot. Oh well. There's no place to go but up, I guess. And this is Dimension's last shot at avoiding termination.

Scream, Halloween rights open for bidding?

Many sites are reporting that The Weinstein Company is in serious trouble. And judging by their recent flops, this could be true. And if it is true, then expect some major franchises to go up on the chopping block soon. But have no fear, this could be a good thing. Say a company like Platinum Dunes buys the rights to Halloween, then we could probably expect the series to return to glory (hopefully).

And as for the Scream films, since their is already a second trilogy planned, could this be TWC's last attempt to bounce back? But if not, you better believe another company is more than willing to buy the rights. The most likely front runner I can see could possibly be Sony Screen Gems.

What do you think about the future of TWC/Dimension Films?

Tim Sylvia to play Jason Voorhees in F13 2?

This comes from Fighters.com...

Former UFC heavyweight champion “Maine-iac” Tim Sylvia (24-6) is currently in Boston playing horror film icon Jason Vorhees in the yet-to-be-titled “Friday the 13th” sequel, Fighters.com has confirmed with a source close to the fighter.

But, before you get angry about the possibility of Derek Mears be replaced, keep reading, because the article goes on to say...

Sylvia is one of the actors standing-in as the hockey mask-mugged serial killer in the movie franchise began in 1980 and spanning 12 volumes.

Note the made "standing-in" in bold. Because that's exactly that. He's a STAND-IN. Which he means he most likely will have ZERO screen time and is only standing in Mears' place while they set up a new scene/shot.

Also, this rumor may be completely BS anyway since the Friday the 13th sequel has yet to begin production. Let me know your thoughts by commenting.

Beavis and Butthead 2?!

This comes from Cinema Blend. Interesting -- and I honestly can't wait to see what comes of this...could it be a sequel or remake?

Mike Judge has made a cult classic comedy, Office Space, and had the animated series
King of the Hill running for 13 seasons. But even with his third feature Extract coming out this Friday, Judge is still, in many ways, the guy who created the two animated loser teenagers who defined the 90s.

When I talked to him today, the conversation turned to Beavis and Butthead almost by accident, talking about the promo video for Extract that features the iconic characters. He expanded on some of the comments he made at Comic Con about wanting to revisit Beavis and Butthead, saying he's been coming up with ideas for the characters all these years, and is definitely considering making a second movie. Bear in mind, that does not mean there will be a second movie, just that Judge would consider it. Still, if you've ever wondered what Beavis and Butthead would be like as tech support guys or as 60 year olds, well, Mike Judge has too.

Read about his plans for the characters, and how he compares them to Cheech and Chong, below. We'll have more from our interview with Judge tomorrow.

Was it a good feeling going back to that? I know at Comic Con when you mentioned revisiting Beavis and Butthead, everybody was talking about it.
I don't ever want to close the door on that, but it seems like a couple of times when I've done interviews and say I've thought about, I go on the internet and see a headline that says I'm starting on the sequel. If I did do another movie, I wouldn't think of it as a sequel, it's just another. I don't think of the Cheech and Chong movies as sequels. If they didn't take so long-- it would take at least two years, and I haven't had two years to spare in a while. It is fun to do again. I worry that as I get older my voice is going to change, so I don't sound the same. But it was fun doing this one.

Occasionally I'll get an idea. A while back, I was thinking, God it would be so fun to just have them working tech support. They're the guys you get when you call. I started writing stuff down. The guy who I co-wrote the first draft of Idiocracy with, Etan Cohen, the whole time we were working on that script, we kept getting distracted thinking of Beavis and Butthead stuff. He was buying a new car, going through that process, and they started writing something about them wandering on a lot and trying to buy a Mercedes.

You feel like you still have it in you to write these guys, even though you've gotten older?
Yeah, I was still pushing 30 to begin with. I have no excuse. But yeah, I feel like they're always still there. I keep wanting to do something with them being like old, in their 60s, two dirty old men sitting on a couch. I've got various drawings of them old, two of which became their dads in the movie. Yeah, I've thought about that.

30 Days of Night 2 director unveiled

This comes from the one, the only, Bloody-Disgusting...

Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned that Ben Ketai has been tapped to direct 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, a story from both Steve Niles and Ketai. Shooting is already slated to begin this October in Vancouver, Canada. We also learned that Stella Oleson returns as the lead character, but she will be recast (Melissa George toplined the first film). In the sequel, Stella joins a group of vampire hunters in order to get revenge on Lilith - the vamp responsible for the attack on her Alaska town. Ketai wrote the web series "30 Days of Night: Blood Trails" and "30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust."

Small American Pie 7 update

I e-mailed American Pie: Book of Love screenwriter David Steinberg and asked about the status of the latest Pie chapter and this is what he had to say...

It's in final sound mix. I'm supposed to go see the most recent cut next week.

Not much. But I guess it's better than nothing. Some promotional and/or a teaser trailer should be hitting the net soon. Keep your eyes peeled, because S-B will have the latest!

No, this image is NOT in the film, this is an obvious outtake from AP2.

Cabin Fever 2 director dislikes his sequel

This shocking news comes from /Film and thanks to B-D for pointing it out. So the director of Cabin Fever 2, Ti West, is dissatisfied with the final cut of his sequel, which was re-cut by Lionsgate for whatever reason. Anyway, this is what /Film is reporting...

He explained that the Lionsgate recut of his Cabin Fever 2 is now complete and that he wishes to disown it. According to him, his edit was like a John Waters or Todd Solondz film (yes, really) and featured heart wipes and star wipes (er…) and that the current version is much less esoteric and idiosyncratic.

Interesting, nonetheless. Welcome to Hollywood, I guess. The movie looks like a mistake if you ask me. Either get Eli Roth to direct the sequel, or don't do it...period.

Teen Wolf to be an MTV series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 1985 hit Teen Wolf is not going be remade, but rather turned into a series for MTV. Here's what THR had to say...

MTV's reinvention of the 1980s movie "Teen Wolf" is inching closer to reality with a pilot presentation order.

The cable network announced the project in January as part of its development slate. After seeing the script, MTV brass picked it up to presentation.

The 1985 film starred Michael J. Fox as a teenager who discovers he is a werewolf. The MTV version will be set in high school, draw from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology and include a romantic plot line.

"It has a fresh take and is very different from the original," said Liz Gateley, senior vp MTV series development. "It has more of an 'American Werewolf in London' feel to it. It's a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques."

The new "Wolf" was written by "Criminal Minds" creator Jeff Davis, who executive produces the pilot with Marty Adelstein (Fox's "Prison Break") and Rene Echevarria (ABC's "Castle").

The '80s continue to be hot at the broadcast networks, with contemporary remakes of the feature "Parenthood" and miniseries "V" set to launch next season on NBC and ABC, respectively, and ABC and Fox developing series based on "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Heathers," respectively.

As part of its push in scripted TV, MTV recently ordered another high school project, the comedy "Hard Times," to series. It also is developing a U.S. version of the raunchy U.K. teen series "Skins."
