Bad Boys 3 AND Rambo 5!

This awesome news comes from Moviehole...

Umpteen years after co-star Joe Pantoliano told Moviehole's Clint Morris (who is knee-deep in film work at the moment, hence yours unruly getting to make it with the keyboard) if there's ever a "Bad Boys 3" - and he didn't sound confident - that he'll likely be so old he'll be acting from a wheelchair, The Hollywood Reporter has announced plans for said second sequel. (And that clinking sound is the faint murmur of Joey Pants' buckled wheelchair tyres as he wheels down to the Sony offices... pen in hand).

In all seriousness (in other words, Joey still has the use of his legs), nobody - not even headline-acts Will Smith and Martin Lawrence - has officially signed for "Bad Boys 3" yet, but Sony are happy for the trades to announce that the flick is in the cards. Ideally, the studio would love to get Michael Bay back to direct... but that too is up-in-the-air. The only certainty is that Peter Craig is writing the screenplay. Oh, and that it'll likely feature lots of flipping cars, explosions and cussing. And maybe a sexy female lead. Oh, and maybe Joey Pants.

And speaking of sequels, Nu Image/Millennium has officially announced "Rambo 5" - which will again be directed by it's star, Sylvester Stallone.

As previously rumored, the new film will be set on American soil. Variety says the "storyline revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. Production will start in the spring."

And I'm assuming Rambo's father will feature in this one? And if so, can he please be played by Brian Dennehy? (wouldn't that be the shizzle!?)

Rob Zombie to remake The Blob

This interesting bit of news comes courtesy of Variety. This could be interesting.

After reviving the "Halloween" franchise, Rob Zombie will next reinvent "The Blob."

Zombie will write, direct and produce a remake of the 1958 horror classic that launched the career of Steve McQueen. Production will begin next spring.

Zombie's deal to make "The Blob" his next film comes as Dimension opens "Halloween II," the Zombie-directed sequel to his 2007 hit "Halloween."

In the original "Blob," an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. While Zombie was a fan of the original, he's formulated a decidedly different take that he would not reveal.

"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie said. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."

Zombie will produce with Genre Co.'s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten; original "Blob" producer Jack H. Harris; and Judith Parker Harris of Worldwide Entertainment Corp. and Andy Gould.

Saperstein, the former Dimension Films president who developed a relationship with Zombie while they worked on "Halloween," said that funding is in place to make an R-rated film that will cost around $30 million. The budget model is similar to that of recent fright fare like "Cloverfield" and "District 9," and they expect to firm a distribution deal before production begins. Genre Co. is in pre-production on the independently financed, Darren Bousman-directed remake "Mother's Day."

"I'd been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space," Zombie said. "I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to."

Zombie has begun writing. He'll follow the release of "Halloween II" with a new album and tour this fall and get the script done at that time.

Shara Kay and Jeremy Platt will be "Blob" co-producers, and David Mendez is exec producer.

Zombie’s repped by ICM and managed by Spectacle Entertainment’s Andy Gould.

Best Sequel Ever? YOU Tell Me

So I've been wondering as of late: what is the best sequel ever? Now keep in mind, I have my preferences (mostly horror), but like I asked: what is the best movie sequel ever made?

Leave a comment and voice YOUR opinion! I'll put a poll up when I get a general census of what everyone thinks.

Halloween 3-D in 2010?

This startling news comes from the LA Times...

"Halloween II" may not have won the box office this weekend, but Weinstein Co. is taking a lesson from the movie that did as it prepares a sequel for next summer.

The independent studio's co-Chairman Bob Weinstein said today that the 3-D sequel, titled, appropriately enough, "Halloween 3D," is in development.

The investment it takes to shoot movies in digital 3-D has proved particularly lucrative for horror films. For "The Final Destination," this weekend's No. 1 movie, theaters with at least one 3-D screen earned 3.25 times as much as those that showed the movie in 2-D only, according to distributor Warner Bros. That's substantially higher than for other recent releases. The equivalent 3-D multiple for last month's "G-Force," for instance, was only 1.7 on its first weekend. For July's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" it was 1.4 andm for June's "Up" it was 2.2. January horror flick "My Bloody Valentine" earned 6.4 times as much from 3-D theaters as it did from 2-D on its opening weekend.

Weinstein said Rob Zombie, who directed "Halloween II" and 2007's reboot of the 31-year-old horror series, won't return for "Halloween 3-D." He said the studio is in negotiations with a new director, whom he declined to name, who has experience in horror and has a "different take" on the franchise.

Swamp Thing remake...in 3-D!

The following comes from Moviehole. A remake of the 1982 Wes Craven film Swamp Thing is going to be remake in 3-D. But, the question is, is it a remake of his film, or Swampy's original DC origin story?
Joel Silver is looking at bringing back that titanic gruesome salivating boondocks-bred ogre...

…. No, not Andy Lazar.

The producer of such monster-centric pics as "Predator", "The House on Haunted Hill" and "Orphan" tells Collider he’s toying with the idea of resurrecting “Swamp Thing”, “which is a movie we’ve had for a long time”, Silver says. ‘’We think that would be great to do in 3D. There are a couple of projects I’m thinking about (for the format) but not everything.”

For the uninitiated, “Swamp Thing” is a character that’s origins lie in the DC Comics Universe. He first appeared in House of Secrets #92 (July 1971), and was created by Len Wein and Berni Wrightson. The character is a humanoid mass of vegetable matter who fights to protect his swamp home, the environment in general, and humanity from various supernatural or terrorist threats.

Wes Craven bought the comic property to the big screen in 1982. It starred Louis Jourdan, Adrienne Barbeau and Ray Wise as the scientist who was transformed into a monster (Swamp Thing) by a laboratory accident.

In addition to “Swamp Thing 3-D”, the always-busy Silver is producing the long-gestating “Greyskull” (based on TV toon “Masters of the Universe”), a remake of the science-fiction classic “Logan’s Run”, the troubled “Wonder Woman” film, and “Sgt. Rock”, set to be directed by Guy Ritchie.

MORE thoughts on Halloween II (2009)

I went and seen Halloween II AGAIN last night. Keep in mind, I wrote my initial review almost immediately after seeing the film, and now, after my second viewing (and having a night's rest to think it over), I completely stand by my original review.

I LOVED H2. Yeah, I said it. I believe the film took a dangerous step into uncharted territory -- and it really payed off.

There's maybe only a few minor things that I would have personally changed about the story:

1. Remove the visions
2. Keep the dream sequences, just shorten them
3a. Have Michael lose the jacket and hood on Halloween
3b. The stripper shouldn't have ripped the mask
4. A few unnecessary kills
5. Laurie wearing the mask

That's really the only low points of the movie. Oh, and maybe the new kid who played Young Myers, his acting was horrid.

But, again, let me stress, I really enjoyed H2 and it fully surpasses the remake. If you're a fan, go see it, if not...then just shut up.

Review: Halloween II (2009)

Below you'll find my review for Halloween II...which I thoroughly enjoyed by the way...

Let me start off by stating that this film is unlike any other Halloween that has come before it. Now if you thought Rob Zombie's 2007 remake was a turn of the page, then get ready to turn to a new chapter. Zombie's Halloween II is arguably the scariest and most terrifying psychological mind trip that I have EVER seen!. Yes, it is a slasher in nature, but the film dives into a territory of gritty realism that has been long overdo in the horror genre.

Let's start with the beginning. The film opens precisely where the remake left off. We get to see the gruesome aftermath of Michael Myers' bloody Haddonfield rampage. And then immediately we jump to the hospital (which is actually the only resemblance to the original Halloween II), where we find the battered Laurie Strode, played by the talented young actress Scout Taylor-Compton. There's also a shot of Myers escaping the capture of authorities through a freak coroner accident. Oh, don't worry, this is a lot more believable than the reason explained in Halloween: Resurrection about the ending to H20.

Mr. Zombie shows that he really is growing as a filmmaker. The film -- which was shot in 16mm -- looks absolutely beautiful. There's a completely different look and feel this time around...and it definitely pays off.

Now there were rumors of Zombie not using John Carpenter's "Halloween Theme", but rest assured (I don't want to spoil anything), you have nothing to fret about.

The film really seems to hit the ground running and never lets up. There are a few uneccessary characters and deaths, but that's okay, we've come to expect no less in horror films.

There is also some interesting moments between Mane's Myers and Taylor-Compton's Strode, where they seem to be sharing the same visions about their mother (played by Sheri Moon Zombie) and the younger Myers (played by a newbie). It's a little weird at first, but it eventually all starts to make sense, which really adds to the atmosphere of the film.

Michael Myers is no longer just a Shape. He is now a character. Yes, that's right. Rob Zombie has successfully given life to a character that, in my mind, has been dead since 1982. Not only that, but he has done something that no other Halloween director has done -- and that is: expanded the character. We get to see into the mind of madness, if you will.

In the end, this may not be the best of the Halloween films, but it is the best Halloween II ever, hands down. This film is definitely worth the price of admission.

If you're a fan of the series and plan on seeing this, just remember this is a sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween, NOT John Carpenter's Halloween. I said it earlier, and I'll restate it now: this is the scariest and most terrifying psyhological mind trip that I have EVER seen!

Batman 3 in glorious IMAX

It seems that the third Batman film in Christopher Nolan's series will be filmed totally in IMAX. This comes from Moviehole...

"You haven't heard Christian Bale Growl Until You've Heard it in IMAX!"

Harry Knowles is reporting that Christopher Nolan's next "Batman" movie (the one he hasn't officially signed on for yet; yeah, right!) might be filmed completely in IMAX.

You'll recall Nolan filmed the impressive opening sequence for "The Dark Knight" (the robbery sequence featuring The Joker) using the technology.

Says Knowles, "Part of the reason that Nolan went forward with INCEPTION first - besides taking a creative break from the cape and cowl adventures... was possibly to create a few new IMAX cameras made to his specs. Once again - the cost of shooting an entire feature film on IMAX... the stock, the time it takes to reset, to load, to move the cameras... Well... it is daunting, but as Nolan proved with DARK KNIGHT - the difference is stunning."

I don't give a shit what stock he uses, so long as he shoots this thing soon!

Hancock 2 has writers

This little bit of news comes from Moviehole.  It seems that some writers have finally been tapped to pen the sequel to Hancock, the Will Smith starrer about a man (a bum, really) with no past who has superhuman powers.

Seems Peter Berg wasn't yanking his crank when he mentioned recently that the wheels were turning on a sequel to last year's successful but underwhelming "Hancock". According to The Hollywood Reporter, TV vets Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara have been hired to pen the sequel to the Will Smith starrer.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the scribes will work with Smith and director Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie.

The original, which grossed $634 million worldwide, starred Smith as a boozy, irresponsible superhero who undergoes an image makeover by a public relations man. It later is revealed that the hero is part of a line of immortal beings who have been around for more than 3,000 years and begin to lose their powers when in proximity to fellow immortals.

"Hancock" was originally written by Vincent Ngo in 1996. It languished in development hell for years and had various directors attached, including Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Jonathan Mostow, and Gabriele Muccino before going into production in 2007. Hancock was filmed in Los Angeles with a production budget of $150 million.

Due it's somewhat uneasy tone, "Hancock" received mixed reviews from film critics. Rotten Tomatoes reported that 40% of critics gave the film positive reviews based upon a sample of 208, with an average score of 5.4 out of 10.

Fifth Twilight a possibility

Some news for the Twihards comes out of Moviehole -- could there be a fifth film?

Not surprisingly, since the book is fatter than the cast of ''The Blues Brothers 2000'' (and the other three novels), Summit may be planning to split the fourth “Twilight” movie – “Breaking Dawn” – into two movies.

Taking a page out of Alan Horn’s decision to slash Warner’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” down the middle, therefore reducing the risk of cramming too much into the one film, but also stimulating the share price for a couple more years, the third sequel to 2007’s surprise hit (it was a surprise to me, anyway) is rumoured to be split in two parts.

It hasn’t been revealed how close together the two films will be released (might it be six months, like “Back to the Future II” and “Back to the Future III”?), but I think we can all assume what’ll be part of “Breaking Dawn Part I” and what will be a part of “Breaking Dawn Part II” (Clue : I’m guessing no animatronic tots will be harmed in the making of the first half). But please don’t write in and ask me where they’ll be split because that there – two lines back – was speculation.

Summit have come out denying the rumour (started by actor Boo Boo Stewart, who told Access Hollywood that he was signed on for three more movies), telling Radar Online, “It is absolutely not true”.... but I’m more personally more inclined to believe the party that didn’t-wrongly-let-go-an-actress-from-the-franchise. Why wouldn’t they be considering splitting the film into two? Of course they’re considering it – if not set on doing that. Just unfortunately for Summit, someone has beaten them to the punch of announcing the plan.

I haven’t read the “Twilight” books, and I don’t plan to (I’m more of a William Goldman or Joe Ezsterhas type of guy when it comes to my literary selections), but my wife has kindly filled me in on what happens in “New Moon”, “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn”. Sounds like most of the drama has been saved up for that final (or is it?) instalment – what with that happening to her, and he and he joining to do that, and he finding out about it - and as long as Summit snag themselves a director as talented as say, David Slade, it might also turn out to be the best movie (though fans say “Eclipse” shouldn’t be too shabby either). What about letting Kathryn Bigelow take the reigns? We know she’s got the skills to captain a meaty vampire movie! (“Near Dark” baby!)

Rob Zombie talks leaked H2 trailer

This is a pretty interesting article from Entertainment Weekly, about the new "leaked" trailer for Halloween II. Check it out, it's a pretty interesting read.

Brad Fuller gives small Elm Street update

Brad Fuller gave a small update about the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street on his Twitter page today...

Don't give up, ill have something for you within two weeks and you'll like it.

I'm guess this either means a short teaser trailer or perhaps some more images of horror's gloved one. Stay tuned.

Could it be? X-Files 3!

Some interesting news comes from Moviehole, there's been some talk of a possible X-Files 3!

The Truth is out there... somewhere....but for the moment you'll just have to settle for a big fat rumour.

According to out friends at Bloody Disgusting, "The X-Files" might be getting the ostensibly-overused reboot treatment. What that means, for those not up with 'film speak', is that Twentieth Century Fox would recast the roles of Mulder and Scully (Shudder!), and rewind the clock on the franchise, likely coming up with some kind of 'Year One' story. Think "Batman Begins", "Casino Royale", or "The Incredible Hulk".

I'm not even a fan of "The X-Files" and I can tell you what a bloomin' mistake that'd be. We've only ever seen the two actors play Mulder and Scully respectively, and as far as I can gather, fans latched onto the series - as well as the two feature film spin-off's - as much to see the aforementioned agents (and their adventures play out) as they did David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Without Duchovny and Anderson, it'd be useless. Fox would essentially be giving a turd-dipped birdie to the fans. Not on.

Thankfully, it's just a rumour, and the third "X-Files" movie might very well see Duchovny and Anderson back in the saddle. In fact, if I was a betting man... I'd lay down a few greenbacks on the tried-and-true duo returning.

Whatever the case, it sounds like there will definitely be another movie. Despite the unfavourable reviews (Moviehole's Tosia gave it a rave review though, calling it 2008's "Best Film of the Year"), "X-Files : I Want to Believe" made a sumly $68 million worldwide; sufficient enough a figure to warrant another.

Gillian Anderson was quoted by X-Files News as saying a third film is already in early development for a 2012 release. I imagine Ms Anderson is including herself in the scenario and not Emma Stone* as young Dana Scully.

"X-Files" fans need to bookmark X-Files News for all the latest developments on a third film - they're really on the ball over there!

* Don't worry Emma Stone is not in the running to play Scully; she's just the first young redhead that came to mind.

Death Race 2 is a GO!

How can there be a sequel to Death Race you say? Simple. When a sequel isn't possible, think prequel -- which is exactly what is happening here. Tip of the hat to Moviehole for the story.

A prequel to the fun but superfluous “Death Race” (2008) is in the works, reports Shock Til You Drop.

Tony Giglio (''Timber Falls'') has been hired to write a script, which will be overseen by Paul W.S Anderson, that will be set before the events of the previous film. The new flick will apparently explore the origins of the deadly game at the center of the ‘franchise’.

Saying that, it’s likely we can expect a new lead, though I suppose there's a chance - since it'd make sense story-wise - that and Ian McShane and Joan Allen's characters could return.

"Death Race", directed by Anderson, was a remake of a Paul Bartel-directed flick from 1975. In the redo, Statham plays a champion of a brutal cross-country car race of the future where pedestrians are run down for points has a change of heart while being hounded by rivals and a conspiracy seeking to stop the race. Allen, McShane, Tyrese Gibson and Natalie Martinez starred.

Interesting Blair Witch 3 news

Thanks to B-D for the heads up, but a bigger thanks to the BBC for supplying the article.

It’s been ten years since “The Blair Witch Project” exploded onto movie screens and into the pop culture history books. Yet as big a phenomenon as that groundbreaking and highly influential horror film was, writer/directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick have failed to follow it in the past decade with something equally compelling. The pair spoke to BBC News recently about the film’s anniversary -- it opened in the UK in October 1999 -- and they mentioned plans for another sequel to their hit debut.

Could a “Blair Witch 3” bring the duo back into the limelight though? Sanchez and Myrick received executive producer credit on the very disappointing sequel “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2,” but they can’t be blamed for how bad that installment turned out. Perhaps they have some good ideas for what to do with a third film?

“We're thinking about going back and and seeing what happened directly after the first film finished,” Sanchez told the BBC. “I think it will have some kind of video element in it, but it won't be a first person hand-held movie."

A direct sequel would have to avoid revealing what really happened to the three protagonists of the first film, of course. Otherwise the mystery is ruined. So the original actors shouldn’t appear, which is probably good considering Heather Donahue has quit the film business. However, Joshua Leonard continues to work, having regained attention recently after his co-starring role in this summer’s indie hit “Humpday.” Maybe he can return as his original character’s twin?

I kind of prefer Sanchez and Myrick’s other plan for a third installment, which Sanchez said was part of an initial ideal concept of having each “Blair Witch” movie be completely different. Before concentrating on the direct follow-up idea, they thought about doing a story set in the 18th century and aimed for a Stanley Kubrick look.

Whatever direction they go in with their sequel plans, Sanchez and Myrick will likely have trouble convincing people that we need more “Blair Witch” after all these years. Despite the fact that the new documentary-style sci-fi film “District 9” seems to be broken from the “Blair Witch” mold, it’s also a relatively original idea. Maybe Sanchez and Myrick should attempt something fresher, whether or not it brings them renewed fame.

Then again, perhaps they should pour their creative energies into a unique, new viral marketing campaign. The unorthodox "Blair Witch" rollout is probably most responsible for the original film's success. With so many years and so many viral marketing success stories since "Witch," the real challenge will involve distinguishing a new "Witch" from the likes of "Cloverfield" and "District 9" before it.

Do you want to see another “Blair Witch” movie, or has that story run its course with a bad sequel and countless parodies? What do you think Sanchez and Myrick could do with the franchise to make it worthy of continuation?

Best Halloween II spot yet?

Could this possibly be the best TV spot for Halloween II yet? You decide...and is it poking fun at The Final Destination?

Gale Weathers is a mommy in Scream 4

Some really interesting news came earlier via SCI FI Wire. It looks like Gale Weathers will have a child in Scream 4...

Courteney Cox, who is set to star in a fourth Scream movie, elaborated on a few details that were revealed by writer Kevin Williamson a couple of days ago about the sequel, which picks up the story 10 years after the events in 2000's Scream 3. Cox will reprise the role of TV reporter Gale Weathers.

"She has a kid now," Cox said in a group interview Saturday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her ABC show Cougar Town. "She's married to Dewey."

Scream 3 ended with Deputy Dewey (David Arquette, Cox's real-life husband) proposing to local newswoman-turned-true-crime guru Gale. The characters bonded during their investigation of the first Scream murders, through the campus crimes of Scream 2 and the film-within-the-film of Scream 3.

Williamson previously described Scream 4 as the beginning of a new trilogy. Cox has no trepidations about beginning another three films. "No, because [I take things] one day at a time," she said. "But I heard the idea for Scream 4, and it's fantastic."

scream_ghostmask.jpg

The Scream series tweaked the conventions of horror movies as film-obsessed killers terrorized teens a la their favorite slashers. Nearly a decade later, Cox said that she is ready for round four. "I'm excited," she said. "It'll be really fun."

With Cox and Williamson both beginning new shows this season, Williamson expects to turn in a final draft for Scream 4 during hiatus and make final deals with cast and directors after that.

Eli Roth talks Thanksgiving

Eli Roth of Hostel and Cabin Fever fame spoke to Bloody-Disgusting about his feature length film Thanksgiving, which is based on one of the fake Grindhouse trailers.

Out promoting his role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (which is QT's best film in over a decade), Eli Roth dropped a few bits concerning Thanksgiving, the full length slasher film based on his faux trailer from Grindhouse. "My co-writer Jeff [Rendell] just landed yesterday in Los Angeles. He flew out for the premiere and so we can finish the script." But it won't be coming anytime in the near future. "I don't want to do it as my next film but I want to get the script finished. The sci-fi film, Endangered Species, is what I'm doing next", Eli tells us. He also stresses that he has no direct involvement with Hostel 3. "No, I'm done. Somebody will, that was part of the deal - that they were allowed to continue doing them without me. And that's what the fans want, clearly there's a demand for it. But I have left it to go on to other things." In the meantime, Eli fans can check out Inglourious Basterds on August 21st - it might not be a horror film, but it's a damn good one.

More Scream 4 news

This comes exclusively from iF Magazine...writer Kevin Williamson drops a few bombs about Scream 4-6.

THE SKINNY: While promoting his new CW show THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and the Summer TCA press tour, iF caught up with that show’s executive producer Kevin Williamson to find out more about the proposed SCREAM 4 that he’s working on.

“I’m writing it,” he says. “Honestly, [VAMPIRE DIARIES] is the focus, I want to get this show going. Luckily COUGAR TOWN [Courteney Cox’s new series] got picked up, so I bought myself a TV season, so I don’t have to deliver a script until hiatus.”

The impetus for SCREAM 4 came with constant bugging by Dimension Films’ Bob Weinstein.

“Bob Weinstein has been bugging me a hundred billion years,” says Williamson. “‘Let’s do it. Let’s do it.’ Wes and I were like ‘no way.’ Then finally I was taking some time off, sitting around thinking ‘what if I had to do SCREAM 4?’ I wasn’t interested, [but then I thought] ‘a trilogy – now I’d be interested! Could we do that and develop a trilogy?’ and then I started thinking about the story. I created three different chapters, broke it up and I got really excited.”

So what is about? Is it a remake? A sequel?

“It’s a new trilogy,” Williamson adds. “It’s ten years later. Gale Weathers [Cox], ten years later.”

Also back will be David Arquette who played Deputy Dewey in the first film and who struck up a relationship on screen and off with Cox.

“[It’s] Sheriff Dewey, I mean Deputy Dewey, oops,” says Williamson. “It’s Dewey and Gale and that’s it.”

With both Cox and Williamson working on TV shows, Williamson does reiterate, a script won’t be ready for awhile and the earliest shooting could commence would be next year.

“I’m going to finish the script in the next couple of months and then we’ll start the project,” says Williamson “It depends on the hiatus schedule and then we'll get in serious talks with [original trilogy director] Wes [Craven] and what his schedule is like. Then the VAMPIRE DIARIES -- I’m committed to this and I have another show at ABC that nobody knows about. That could come in and change everything.”

Of course, Williamson couldn’t see the movie done properly without Craven involved.

“Wes wants to read the script before we sign on, which makes sense,” he adds. “We’ve sort of chatted about it. We’re a SCREAM family, so not having dad sitting at the head of the table, wouldn’t make sense.”

Superman to be rebooted

This comes from Moviehole...

Those that have read about the whole brouhaha between WB and the Siegels (and if you haven't read here), will know that in order for Jeff Robinov's crew not to lose the Man of Steel to another studio, they have to put a new "Superman" flick before the cameras by 2011.

As a consequence, a project that wasn't anywhere near a priority for the studio (They, like many fans, weren't happy with "Superman Returns") is now on the "fast track".

According to IESB, 2006s "Superman Returns" is now seen by the WB as a "bookend" to the Richard Donner series - thus, they won't be sequelizing it. Nor will they be hiring Bryan Singer to direct. And though the studio has said in the past they'd like to have him back, it's doubtful Brandon Routh will return either (kinda feel sorry for the guy, but who knows, maybe "Dead of Night" will be a hit - -and offer him a chance at another fiscally-pleasing series?). Yep, the new film will be a complete reboot.

And who might be behind the reboot? According to the aforementioned site, the Wachowski's (don't know that we can call them brothers, now?) - a duo not totally unfamiliar with comic-book flicks (they helmed "Speed Racer", and briefly flirted with "Plastic Man") are in with a shot. Doesn't matter that they pissed away all of the studio's money on the ill-fated "Racer", the twosome still made the Burbankians a shitload of cabbage with the "Matrix" trilogy - seems that's all Robinov cares about. But in a sensible move - if only because the filmmaker is really impressing these days! His new film "Ninja Assassin" is apparently hotter than a sauteed chili! action-packed to boot!- James McTeigue may direct, leaving Larry and Andy Wachowski to produce. Could work...

Hopefully there'll be more news soon...

Lindsay Lohan in Machete!

Call me crazy, but I believe this could be the resurrection of Lindsay Lohan's career...kudos to B-D for the story...

"something was made official today!!!!!!!!!" Lindsay Lohan screams on her Twitter page. Two hours later she posted a link to the IMDB page for Robert Rodriguez's Machete, which also features Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jonah Hill, Robert De Niro and even 80's action star Steven Seagal as cast. Obviously we'll wait for some official confirmation, but it looks like Rodriguez is keeping the grindhouse appeal with the feature film version of his faux trailer. Ethan Maniquis will co-direct the film that follows Machete, a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

Saw VII (7)...in 3D?!

This very interesting tidbit comes from Arrow In The Head...

Hello, boys and girls. I want to play a game. It’s called “Beating a Dead Horse”. Actually, it seems like the makers of SAW VI may be the ones partaking in this particular match. Of course, I truly hope I’m wrong with that statement. It’s just that what I’ve seen of the film so far hasn’t done much for my confidence in the series. And SAW V was just so aweful.

Well, apparently Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have nothing but high confidence in SAW’s sixth installment with the announcing of a SAW VII already being greenlit. Can you believe that shit? Then how about this new little nugget: it appears that the seventh installment may finally be the first SAW film to come at us in 3D! It’s true! The folks over at Shock discovered the news from Twisted Pictures’ producers. Perhaps that is why the announcement of SAW VII came so early—because the 3D filming process will take a lot longer than how these flicks are usually done.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a SAW flick in 3D… as long as it wasn’t merely being used as a cheap gimmick to replace the fact that the storyline has all but dried up in the series. That’s right, my friends, I’m still going to need a well-written script to go along with all the gory traps. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. SAW VI: THE (HOPEFUL) REDEMPTION will be cutting into theaters on October 23rd.

Katie Holmes in Sex sequel

This also comes from the reliable Moviehole...

Don't imagine this is anywhere near a done deal (especially considering reports the film has been pushed back), but according to TVNZ, Bat-babe Katie Holmes could be joining the cast of the "Sex and the City" sequel.

Holmes, currently in Melbourne filming "Don't be Afraid of the Dark" with Guy Pearce (and a bunch of unemployed Aussie actors you haven't seen since "Richmond Hill" was on air), is reportedly up for the role of "a really ballsy, high-powered company executive who tangles with Samantha" in the 2010 sequel.

Hubby Tom Cruise wasn't keen on Katie doing "The Dark Knight", would he really approve of "Sex and the City 2"? Unlikely.

Dante-less Gremlins 3...in CGI

This comes from Moviehole...

"Gremlins" director Joe Dante has been asked quite a bit in recent times whether or not he'd be involved - or want to be involved - in a third "Gremlins" movie. His answer is always 'No', he's not involved and he wouldn't want to be, adding something to the retort like (and I'm paraphrasing) "It'd suck anyway, they'd probably do it with mother-fucking CGI Gremlins!".

Speaking to Empire Online, Dante (who also directed 1990's "Gremlins II : The New Batch") said he's heard that a new "Gremlins" film could be ramping up at Warner Bros - but strongly doubts it'll be a sequel to his two films.

"I hear they're going to make another one soon," the Gremlins director told us. "I can see why - it would be stupid to let that title go to waste." Just don't expect a straight sequel. "The actors from the first two (Zack Gallighan and Phoebe Cates) are too old to do a proper sequel, so I'm sure when the new one arrives it will be a remake of the original."

"Gremlins" creator Chris Columbus also hasn't been asked back - but believes it'll suck worse than a toothy hooker.

"If they do the monsters with CGI, I don't know if it would be the same. They should go back and do it with puppets again, though at this point I wouldn't be interested in being involved."

I don't know about you, but a CGI-remake of "Gremlins" just wouldn't be something I'd be interested in seeing.
